Is a ts816 the same as an iq816?
Win7-the greatest thing since sliced bread. Um, not quite. I got the free upgrade and wanted the multi-touch features, so I put it on. The task bar is nice. I have minor probs on other desktops, seeing but not opening nas drive, ie8 giving error messages etc. Your vista may just need a little tune up/clean up.

My IQ506 has a Win7 install on it, but not the official HP one and it's a positive change, but then these machines with Vista were never awful, Vista worked very well for them. Win7 handles the light use touch functions I want and since I was never a heavy user of the Touchsmart suite components, it's not the end of the world for me if they're not 100%.

Others that use the TS apps more then the OS-based touch seem to have had more complaints and problems, it's not a seamless painless upgrade for all.

If I had the full official HP upgrade kit for my Touchsmart I'd not hesitate to install it. If I had to do it myself and cared about the new Touchsmart apps I'd consider how comfortable I would be if the install didn't go smoothly, and that might be enough for some people to decline.

Bill,

It's not Win7 that's causing people pain and trouble, it's the HP Touchsmart applications not being happy about the clean installs without the HP-assisted upgrade path. So I'm not sure how much a service pack would matter, on the other hand HP may over time get the upgrade path to be a bit easier for folks upgrading.

I've really enjoyed the Windows 7 experience compared to Vista's. Not a gigantic difference, but the taskbar is great and there are some UI improvements that make using my machine a little more enjoyable. The fact that Win7 supports multitouch allows you to get more out of your TouchSmart as well, as you can use multitouch most anywhere.
