It's a bit complicated. I'm not aware of what precisely gets checked by the spXYZ.exe, but you can unpack it using 7-Zip until you get to an MSI file that you can install. The MSI doesn't check for anything.
I assume that you're a developer. Did you contact HP to participate in the developer program for TouchSmart? There's a link that says "Business Application Developers, Click Here" on the top right of this thread that takes you to a site with more information.
I'm a tad frustrated that HP hasn't made the Touchsmart software more available. Seems like that would help drive development and therefore adoption.
I downloaded a file named sp44425.exe from HP's support site. It only works on a new-generation Touchsmart, but not on the first-generation (even when upgraded to Win 7) on not on any computer that is not specifically an HP Touchsmart.
On these other Win 7 machines, I get an error message during installation that says "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled (9996)."
Anyone know what the installer's looking for and whether it's something that can be faked so we can at least test our tile on other machines besides Touchsmarts?

lamprizzle, were you able to get Touchsmart 3.0 to work a non-Touchsmart? I followed GTG's steps, and have the shell installed, but I can not get any of the applications to load in the shell. Any tips?
