Hi
I am new to this forum, touchsmart world, win 7 awesomeness and this is my first tablet pc.
And I am loving it as of now ! :)
Here is my question:
My system came with 3GB of RAM ( 1 and 2 gb, I am guessing)I want to upgrade it to 4gb.
Now HP parts website says
http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?type=PROD&SearchText=FR171AV
"2GB, DDR2-800MHz, 201-pin, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)"
Pricing at HP parts is 2-3 times more than anywhere else.
The alternative is
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=D4B6A67EA5CA7304

But there is this strange difference of 200 and 201-pin !
Can someone please help me understand the difference and moreover can someone please tell me that I can use the Crucial one for my Tx2Z ?

Thanks in advance for any help !

Thanks for the reply Jolly.

I have another question and would appreciate if anyone can help me understand.

I upgraded (not clean install)my Tx2Z to win7. I have current 3GB installed on this tablet.
However when I check RAM under MyComputer>>properties it shows
Installed Mempry (RAM): 3GB (2.75 GB usable)

Whats up with that ? I thought after upgrading to 64bit win 7 home premium system should see all the memory... right ?
Or am I mistaken here ?
Thanks for replies.

As for my original question...
Seems like absolutely noone has ever heard of 201-pin memory !:)
I am going ahead and ordering

Any comments on this.
I would love to spike it up to 8gb... but short on cash as of now :)

seing 2.75 is normal and is discussed several times on theese fourms. Basically, your videocard is sharing part of your ram.

Ragged is correct. 256mb~ is used as virtual memory for the ATI graphics card. Also, if you system is 32bit it will not see the full 3gb+ and beyond, so make sure you have Windows 7 64bit (home/pro/ultimate) otherwise the 4gb of ram is a waste.

actually on a quick side post, not wanting to start my own thread for a simple question i think i know, we know the ati card is capeable of pulling more ram then 256 it can pull just over a gig, my question, is there some way to set it? Ive checked the bios, and I dont see it, would be very nice to be able to use that gig, cause i dont need 8gb really, I hardly use over or near to 6.

Thanks for the replies guys !
I agree with ragged that tweaking the ATI card to use more RAM wud be awesome for graphics intensive use.

Hey Ragged, in the studying I did some time back, I did not come across any way to change the amount of dedicated memory to the videocard. Everything said that the computer manufacturer chooses whether the option goes into the bios options, and it seems that HP has opted out of this.

Petition maybe?

Based on the lack of almost any options in the bios, I wouldnt hold my breath over them implementing this one as a user changable option. =(

Would be nice if they opened it up more, but laptop manufactures are usually pretty stingy with allowing almost any access to the bios.

Yea I get what your saying, I wonder if the bios manufacture could help. I cant think of the name right now and im to busy working on uploading a folder for yall to restart, and im all for a petition, although I highly doubt it would do any good.
