Hey All

I’m still new to this whole tablet-pc world, but I just wanted to check if it’s possible to upgrade the CPU on the HP Tx2-1050eo? I have been searching a lot on the forum, but couldn´t find any good info, maybe I’m using the wrong keywords, but anyways: I have a AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74. I’m well aware that the Graphic Card is integrated with the motherboard, but is it possible to buy a better processor? And if so, where can I get buy them?

Thanks

Technically, Yes you can upgrade the cpu. Economically, no. The only place really to buy oem notebook processors is ebay.  They run in excess of 100 dollars.

Here is a link to a zm87 for 170

If you really feel inclined to, then do it. But be aware you will violate your warranty if hp ever finds out. and please be aware, if your not experienced in disassembly of notebooks can be extremely tricky.

+ That you'll void your guarrantee. If you want another processor you're best of selling your current computer and buying a new one with the desired processor

As has been said very well by ragged, yes you can upgrade it, no you dont want to bother. In addition to the stated points of voiding warranty and difficulty in replacing it (laptops are a pain to take apart, this one especially), the performance gain you would see would not really justify the cost of 150-200$.

or you could be super ninja, Keep the old one, buy the new one, and if you ever send it back change the 2 out. Hp should never know the differance, unless you tell them.

They might notice the nonstandard heat sync paste instead of the crappy stuff HP applies though :)

I guess... but of course i have had really great experiance with hp support before. Idk if they would really care, but like i said i have had moments where hp has left cds in, and has replaced parts i didnt need, I even got a free webcam upgrade on my dv6000. But like i said, maybe just good luck.

Its $325+minimum there, I could buy a brand unit for almost that. Trying ebay looking for a parts one, usually about $100 or so there so not too bad.

This is however not an option since you'll be breaking the "warranty void if this sticker is removed or damaged"-label. I haven't disassembled my tx2, but a lot of other laptops, and I can tell you that all laptops ahve one of those. The tx2 is good as it is because you can change wifi, HDD and DIMM without voiding warranty.

Really, because I have disassembled several laptops (hps) in my life and never come across this label

Hmm, interesting... I've disassebled like 10-15 and come across these in all of them. Baybe it's more common in europe, sweden or something...

EDIT: Only one or two of them were HPs

My unit did not have one of these. I carefully looked for one when I disassembled mine to replace the heatsync paste. I couple screws did appear to have a small amount of locktight on them thought which might have served as an indicator that the unit had been taken apart out of factory. I put a new drop of locktight on each screw before I put them back to be safe.

Thank you JW. I didnt think they would but I was a lil to lazy to dissasemble mine. Locktight is pretty easy to come by and easy to replace. thanks again!

Locktight? Is that what that blue stuff was on the screws? I always wondered about that.  I to was unable to find any warranty sticker when replacing the thermal paste.

However I did find the back portion of the top plastics extremely annoying to remove.  It took longer than anything else.

Yes, that would be it.
