I believe that is indeed part of the 3.x versions. At least the music app has it. I've not found the time to set anything like that up yet, but it should work.
Can we finally add network media to Touchsmart now that the 3x versions are out?
This was quite a disappointment in earlier releases. I will upgrade to Win7 and the latest Touchsmart apps if I can add music and photos via network shares or Win7 Libraries. Anyone get this working?
Thanks!
Nope. Installed Win7 clean (not upgrade), Installed the 3.x software, went into the Music Panel, settings, and the only folders you can add are the local ones on the PC. Maybe there is a hack, but it does not work as far as I can tell. IRRITATING
You installed all of the various 3.x software parts? Not just the "shell", but all the other stuff as well (Netflix, Hulu, Twitter, Clock, RSS, Notes, DVD, Browser, Music/Photo/Video, Calendar, Weather, Webcam, Live TV)? I'm asking because the term "3.x software" can mean many things.
Not sure what Netflix or Hulu would have to do with network shares in the music panel.....but of course I installed the 3.x verisons of Music-Photo-Video, Calendar and Weather, Notes, etc.
I only mentioned the entire list to try to be very certain that you got the 3.x version of Music/Photo/Video and not just the "shell".
So it looks like you have the right stuff installed, which leaves me a bit puzzled. The 3.x music app is supposed to enable network drive access and DLNA media. Perhaps you have to actually map a drive letter to be able to see stuff on a network if it's not on a DLNA device.
Sorry I was a bit cranky with my last answer, I am just frustrated that this does not work. I will experiment further......
i have a 600xt 1055, win7, and I can tell you that mapped network drives do not work in the music app. DLNA-enabled storage devices do not show up either as sselectable "local" media sources. Only local folders and physical drives show up, mapped drive letters do not. very disapointing!
However, I do have a D-Link DNS-321 with DLNA / iTunes server features. if you choose itunes as the media library and then in itunes choose the DLink as your media source, it then shows up in the music app with all album covers / flip menu etc.
I've been able to get the 3.0 Music app that I have to link to an XP machine on my home network by enabling media sharing in Windows Media Player to "new devices" (i.e. non-preapproved devices). It's Music 3.0.1.3205.
Also, mapped network drives show up in the Music app without a problem.
The Video and Photo app are also able to see my XP machine's Windows Media Player shared stuff.
