The models i've seen are 64bit. I assume that HP will offer 64bit Vista with models that have 4GB ram installed and 32bit with anything lower. This is because 32bit Windows can only 'see' a max of 3GB Ram

Ok cool i read it was 32bit and was like why? so im really glad to hear its 64bit . it seams every add has differenr info and sometimes it gets confusing..

thanx !!!

Mine came with Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Dual core CPU's are natively 64 bit. It is usually an "economy" choice of the vendor to sell a model with 32 bit Vista and 3 gigs of RAM. If you go to configure your own model, you will have a choice for 4 gigs of RAM and Vista 64 bit.

There are a few reasons for this... I'll list the ones I know of:

a lot of companies still are not setting up their software for 64-bit platforms.

a lot of hardware drivers are only 32-bit, so you may plug in your camera to upload photos (example), and it won't work. again, companies simply aren't ready to start making 64-bit drivers.

generally, (because of processors) 64-bit is an option only ran on desktops. I recalle reading somewhere that HP is the first company to offer it stock on a laptop (because of the AMD puma processor that they use in the TX2Z).

You don't actually get things in

Care to be a bit more specific or are you just stating a useless point?   In another post you said you were happy with it....

a strange thing I have noticed is when I installed windows 7 64 bit on my tx2zz it says:

Installed Memory: 4 GB (3.75 available)

I thought that only happened with 32 bit

I have the same problem with my TX2500 (siimilar tablet pc with single touch, same hardware though). I posted the question on neowin.net a while back because it did not start happening until the most recent releases. Earlier beta releases or win 7 reported 4 gigs of ram. I was told that it is due to the chipset on the motherboard and how it reports ram useage and 256MB is allotted for memory card use.
The irony though is that in Vista 32 bit, it shows all 4 gigs available. I was assured that it is not a problem and the memory is there and available, just not being "reported" by Windows 7. Was also told that it should be fixed by the time the final realease comes out.

No Dave i am happy with the Touchsmart tx2 but I am unhappy about the OS that being 32 bit with a 4 GB. I mean where is the point? if I can not use the whole 4 GB with the 32-bit OS? Sorry for the confusion. Besides I am using the Win 7 RC 64-bit and sure to upgrade it to Win 7 as soon as it is released, since HP offeres this for machines bought after 26th June for a small postage fee...

I'm not sure how HP offeres it in Germany/Europe, but there should have been a choice available for the 64 bit Vista.

In any event, Win7 should do much better and open a lot more doors for multitouch. I just hope HP is supportive with the drivers.

There's no option to choose between 32bit and 64 bit OS in the German HP-Store. In fact there are actually 3 versions of the Touchsmart TX2 which you can choose from. They're all only slightly different from each other (CPU, Bluetooth, HDD capacity, ...), but all models come with 4GB of RAM installed and a 32bit Windows Vista.

Only 1 version being shown in the UK HP store.

Standard memory
3072 MB
Memory layout
(1 x 1024 MB + 1 x 2048 MB)
Maximum memory

No option to customize.

It seems as HP does not offer much of variety of the models of the TS tx2 in europe. Besides it should support max. 8 GB DDR2 memory. Think it is because of the 32-bit version of windows. Very confusing...

July 24, 2009 10:50 AM

It would be nice to be able to have 64 bit, 8gb of ram and so on but am not looking to buy for a few months so there may be other alternatives around by then, which is a shame as I liked the TS Tx2. Maybe we'll be able to customise them in europe by then too....
