The DVD tray of my TX2Z can be removed.

So I was wondering if I can use this DVD tray as external DVD drive for my netbook (which doesnt have a DVD/CD drive).

If YES.. then I guess my 2nd question is what connector cord would I need to connect this DVD drive to the USB port of my netbook.

 Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks a ton.

only thing i can think of would be this adapter

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-USB-2-0-To-eSATA-or-SATA-Serial-ATA-Bridge-Adapter_W0...

and then buy 2 sata cables. Although, note to do this you will have to remove the bezel each time. to expose the real sata ports....

I would think it would be better to just buy an external optical drive vs doing this. The hardware was not designed to be removed and taken apart like that all the time.

Also, the connector on the optical drive is not standard SATA, not entirely sure if even removing the slimline connector will reveal a SATA connection, pretty sure it will not however. Not at home to check right now.

Jw. Im pretty sure its just dual sata (power and data). I have taken one apart before (im prettysure it was my tx2, because all my others are a pain to get out.) And its simpially sata. but i do agree that its not ment to be used all the time, but if you do need it for a once in a while it should be fine.

Yea I was quite annoyed when I first removed the unit and saw the old school interface, at first i threw it back in and just delt with it, then I read somewhere that you needed to get a SATA bluray drive.... and I got currious, 4 awkwardly small screws later.... surprise!
