My must-have app at the moment is a third-party application called Evernote.  This application allows you to take down quick notes and sync them to a remote server.  I use it in conjunction with the built-in Notes application (which, on a side note, satisfies my need to have a Post-It style solution to jot down quick notes... I love dragging them around the screen and organizing them :)

Since the TouchSmart makes a great "central" computer, Evernote is a perfect fit - for example, my better half can clip and send a recipe to me on the TouchSmart in the kitchen (using the touch screen interface to clip a screenshot, or copy and paste) which I can access via my mobile phone instantly while I'm out shopping.

So, what applications have you found that work well with your TouchSmart, and that you can't live without?

Very cool application. When I first read your post, I thought that there would be a lot of overlap with the TouchSmart built-in notes application, but from what I can see on the site, it looks like this does a whole lot more. Definitely worth checking out, especially since it looks like it's free!

The great thing is that it can be used in conjunction with the Notes feature.  The Notes are still an awesome way to write quick things in an easy-to-access way.

Evernote takes it a step further by giving a detailed interface, web clipping capability, browser integration, and lots more, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it a replacement for the touch-interface Notes.

It's free for the most part but they do have a premium account option, which is $5 per month at the moment.  I think most users would never get to the point where they are sending so much data via Evernote that they would have to pay, but for business or professional users, it might be necessary.  The amount you can use for free is impressive... I'm sure that may change over time.

Peter, thanks for the heads up on Evernote. It looks like exactly what I need. With all my different machines and my traveling it looks like it will work for what I need to do.

Just watched a screen cast for Evernote and now I want to use it more than ever. They provide character recognition from text in pictures which was demonstrated with business cards. For example, if you upload a picture of a business card, the Evernote service will OCR the text on the card and make it available for searching.

This makes me think that a visual catalog of business cards for the family, available on the TouchSmart, and accessible via keyword search would be a fantastic app.

Sounds like its within reach...

You can also take a picture of various items with the built-in webcam, which it can also search for text if you'd like. Another feature I've been using a lot is the screenshot feature - since it seems that Vista doesn't have a really good one built in that I have found.

They keep adding more and more features, too, so it will be exciting to follow how they continue to enhance it.

I like the business card app idea - the interface could be similar to the "album browsing" in the Music app. Much cooler than a Rolodex ;)

I'd love to see the Blimp Pilots create a version of the Koi Pond for the TouchSmart. Not very useful, but seems like a lot of fun ;)

^ +1 for sensomusic Usine touch screen edition. piclens is not same as CoolIris

ArtRage is pretty badass too, even the free basic version. Try using it with an actual paint brush for best results. TouchSmart's huge screen really comes in handy here.

Here's a nifty Flash game that I found over on Kongregate that works quite well with the TouchSmart.

I bet if you dig around over there, you'll find more.

Works well with TouchSmart. The fact that it's an open source drawing program for 3 to 12 year old children is no reason why we can't enjoy too.

Scriblink...."free digital whiteboard that users can share online in real-time. Sorta like pen and paper, minus the dead trees, plastic, and the inconvenience of being at the same place at the same time"

Interesting....

Not so much about the touchscreen, but really cool because of the built in microphone on the Touchsmart.

I love the Personal Brain 5 program. It's amazing on the Touchsmart, because it's literally like stepping inside my brain, where I touch thoughts, memories, and all sorts of interconnected ideas, notes, etc., and corresponding images, videos, interconnections can be visually and tactiley accessed. You can attach multiple links or files to it. It's just amazing, especially when thinking through worlds (such as novel ideas) or even preparing for a paper, organizing just about anything...

Quite frankly, it's half the reason I bought a Touchsmart. Even though it's not meant for touch screen computers, it lends itself so well (especially given the huge screen size) that it's like it was meant for it. You can touch the thoughts, and they cycle through their interconnections. Pretty customizable look and colors, too.
