Hi there,

I am looking for a HP Touchsmart. I have read many articels about the touchsmart. I am a little bit confuused about the product identification.

Many older articles tell something about the "touchsmart IQ504 and 506". Currently, you see only "touchsmart 300 and 600" at the HP.com website. Some online stores also offer "touchsmart IQ526, IQ804". What are differences between both types?

Thanks,

Andre

The IQ500 and IQ800 series are second generation (with Vista preloaded). The 300 and 600 are third generation (with Windows 7 preloaded). As is "tradition", lower numbers mean the machine is a bit lower-end and physically smaller. That rule may not hold true in the future, though.

I just managed to source a New Touchsmart IQ830UK Unit here in the UK.  As I found for myself I wanted Intel® Core™2 Duo P7450 / 4GB Inside my Uint and I also wanted 25.5" HDTV with the Onboard NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9600M GS HD with PureVideo® HD technology Graphic's , Blu-Ray and a 1TB SATA Hard Drive and with Window Vista Home Premium.

There are many Touchsmart units with very different spec's its all personal taste I find, but look closely at the specs and model numbers as they do vary a lot.

RPG. One more thing. Is yours a Multitouch? ie, able to make a pic/photo larger with two fingers on the screen?

Thanks! :D

Danny ( Its RGP not RPG)

Yes the Unit I found On Ebay UK, was or is Multi-Touch with the two finger scroll function a standard feature on the HP TouchSmart IQ800 range I believe. The Ebay Online store only had the one unit, so its pointless me adding there Ebay store details. I looked for some time to buy this unit, as a lot of the new unit tend to be AMD and I wanted Pure INTEL Inside My PC's as I'm used to the reliability. Plus the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS HD with PureVideo HD technology Graphics was and absolute must for my needs as I'm a semi-pro photographer for my sins. One thing I would have Liked but is not on the HP Touchsmart IQ830uk would have been a HDMI connection Though My HP Dv6 1030ca Laptop has this feature so I can do all I need with my network,I feel.

I would like to add, sometimes a new model/models of a range are not always an improvement on the old model. I have found. The HP TouchSmart IQ800 range, I personally find to be the best spec of all the Range of Touchsmart desktop PC's Past and Present. I don't say that to offend any other spec or Touchsmart user as I know for most budget is a major consideration when picking a PC you want as it was for myself too.

I pick up my system in the morning, I really can't wait. I think I may even have a restless night.

Danny, I hope you find a Touchsmart to your liking soon as I was told and did find out for myself "They Are Still about if you look hard enough".

Don't give up Looking.. As i think you will love the HP Touchsmart even if its not an i3 or i5 or i7....... HP really do make the most stunning and reliable system's in my view.

IQ5xx and IQ8xx units are multitouch capable with the updated Win7 drivers.

Hey thanks for the info RGP! Great advice! It sounds like you got the right one for you! I think ive seen a simalar spec to yours on Ebay. But the auction had ended. But i will keep my eyes pealed for more units! I think your right about the new, or 'newer' models.

Good luck getting your tomo!

Thanks again! ;D

Diane, is the case i will need to upgrade to win7 (with drivers etc) to enable the capabilty of multitouch?

Thanks! :D

Hi there,
I think the best possibility is to buy a HP Touchsmart of the 300 or 600 series, because you don'y have to install Win 7 and the touch drivers. Some stores like amazon offer also the old series. T don't know why. May to get shot of the remnants, but I don"t know exactly.
I bought a HP Touchsmart 600-1050. I am very happy with that version. Only the Hp shell maked waves caused be the fact that is new technology.

Danny

This YouTube Video shows the two finger operation on the HP Touchstmart IQ500 running Widows Vista Home Premium software which is also on the HP Touchsmart IQ800 series

The unit I bought  "HP Touchsmart IQ830uk" also has Windows Vista Home Premium which is what software i wanted on my unit as I can upgrade to Window 7 when all the Bugs are fixed in the future

This video also shows this site as a place to see new items from users on the HP Touchsmart Range.

Hey RG! Thanks for the link. There are some good vids in that set. I was worried as i read somewhere that the Multi-touch isnt enabled on some models. However, i think from research its some of the older ones.

Im the same about Vista, i will wait a while until 7 has been going for a while and the bugs fixes have been smoothed out.

Until then i will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the advice and let me know how you get on with your HP!

;D
