Hi guys,

did you know how to connect an external mic and disable the built-in microphone?

PC: HP Touchsmart IQ512it under Windows 7.

Thanx

Sure - after you've connected your mic, find the audio icon in the task bar. It should be in the lower right, next to the clock, and look like a speaker. You might have to click the arrow to find it.

Right-click that and select Playback Devices. Under the recording tab, right click the microphone you wish to use and select "Set as default device".

Sorry but mic don't work following your instructions.

Where I plug the mic, on PC left side or back.

I tried both but secting Playback Devices only the built-in mic appairs.

Thanx for your kind replay.

Looks like its not finding your microphone. If its USB, check to see if it is getting power (see if a light on the mic is on or not). If it is a 3.5mm audio jack, make sure you are plugging it into the microphone port, and not the headphone port.

If it still isn't working, check the mic on another computer to ensure that the mic is functional. If it is functional, then I'm not sure what the problem is and won't be able to help...sorry!

TouchSmart IQ512it doesn't have a mic port so I think it is possible to connect a mic to a preamp and then connect to "line in" port.
What do you think about ?
