Your question is hard to answer without specific examples of the software you want to run. You may want to visit the websites of the various companies that make your software products and check if they say that it is known NOT to work on 64 bit Vista.
64 bit Vista has a 32 bit compatibility layer, so unless the software you have does something hardware specific, it should work. The HP TouchSmart environment, for example, is written as a 32 bit program.
Hi,
I have recently ordered the Touchsmart iq 816, but my main OS until now is Windows XP 32 bit, and all my software is 32 bit.
My question is: Will 64 bit Vista run all my 32 software?, and if the answer is no, what alternatives are available to solve this?
Thanks in advance.

Now that's interesting. Why so? Compatability with other programs? I would guess that it would perform better (I'm not complaining...mine performs well) as a 64 bit program.
Many of the general programs that I had used on my 32 bit Vista desktop such as Office 2007, AVG Antivirus and others work fine. Couldn't find my Nero disk to load it, but I'm almost certain that I woulld need a 64 bit version of it.

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
The HP TouchSmart environment being 32 bit has various reasons, most of them historical and related to how things unfolded during the overall product development phase. Can't say much more than that. It may be that 64 bit code performs better, but it also has a larger memory footprint just by its 64 bit nature. I sound like a broken record when I say it, but it was one of those perfomance/memory tradeoffs.
A great resource when adding new software or hardware to your pc is Windows Vista Compatibility Center. From there you can tell what is and is not Vista 64bit compatible for most things.

Wow, thank you all for your answers.
Until now all my 32 bit software is running ok. Sometimes using vista basic color scheme.
My software: Getright, eMule, Ares, DivX (video player), Foxit pdf reader, iSilo, QuickTime, WinRar.
There are more programs I didnt have installed but for now everything is running without problem.
Thanks
hi, I try to buy the hp model touchscreen iq816, wonder if I can upgrade with a better video card to output hd nvidia mark, which would be the range of prices? thank you very much for your help.
No, the video card can not be upgraded. Its actually a mobile graphics chipset and not a discrete video card. My Windows experience index for aero in Vista was 5.9 though its a 5.1 in Win7...still pretty respectable.

So there is no way to output through some kind of HDMI? I wanted to use the IQ816 with bluray for my home theatre player/media center. Any ideas??
You could try a USB-to-DVI adapter (such as this one: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06c/A10-51210-332469-332462-332469-... and then chain another DVI-to-HDMI adapter on. That wouldn't carry any sound, though.
The IQ500/IQ800 series is not designed with any kind of video out ports.
