I would like to run the internal and external speakers (RCA connected) at the same time.  The external speakers are in a seperate room.  If I read the manual correctly, when I setup the external speakers, the internals will shut off?  Is it possible to run the internals and external speakers together?  Any advice on how to accomplish this would be appreciated!

 Thank you

I don't believe you can run both simultaneously. Like most laptops, plugging any cable into the audio output will cut off the internal speakers. I don't see any way around that either. I haven't tried using the SPDIF output to do simultaneous output, but based on the audio selection box in the control panel, it doesn't appear that will work either.

You could always use a set of small PC speakers near the TouchSmart PC, which will let you split the output line using a 1/8" male to 2 1/8" female Y cable.

looks like i'm on the same boat. I just hooked up a powered 2.1 speaker set to finally get some bass.

it would be nice to have a work around this instead of the constant removal of the speaker cable.

Since my primary objective was to play my Itunes via the speakers on the touchsmart and my home audio system, I hooked up an Airport express. I configured the airport express to extend my existing wireless network and utilized the audio out to extend the functionality of the Itunes application. It worked flawlessly and was very simply to setup. Now in Itunes, I have the option to play the audio via the internal speakers, through the airport express audio port or both. Although my RCA ports for my home audio system were near my Touchsmart, the Airport Express can be placed anywhere in range of your home Wifi network.

If you go this route and have a Iphone or Ipod touch, download the "Remote" application. With this app, you can run the Itunes app on your desktop/Touchsmart from your Iphone/Ipodtouch.

The Airport Express is awesome. MS should takes some notes.
