if you choose the upgrade options then all your files will remain intact
but i did a clean install so basically copied the enter folder which has all the contacts, music, video folders inside,
and then paste and over right once windows 7 was installed,
windows 7 is the way to go,
runs much better
So I recently ordered my free upgrade to windows 7 from HP. It should arive in the mail in about a week. I've heard so many bad things about vista and all the improvements that windows 7 comes with. Plus, like I said, It was free. so I kind of feel like I should make the upgrade. i just want to know first if it will work correctly on my model. I have Vista 64 bit Home premium and will upgrade to windows 7 64 bit home premium on my Touchsmart all in one destop PC IQ816.
1. Can I then also upgrade to touchsmart 3.0 when I make the upgrade? Or will it not work on my iq816?
2. I here a lot about the microsoft windows touch pack. Is that included in the free upgrade? If not, do you have to purchase it from microsoft? Is it a download on the microsoft web site? Again, will it work on an IQ 816.
3. I hear a lot about windows 7, touch pc's, and multi touch. In my Touchsmart software on my IQ816, multitouch works only when I want to make the main tiles larger or smaller. really, multi touch doesn't work anywhere else. So do I or don't I have true multi touch abilty on this model and will it work in windows 7?
4. Will the upgrade be a clean upgrade where I will not loose all my pictures/videos/music/programs/ect.. I mean will everything be basically the same, just with new software? Or will it be the equivalent to a complete system restore where I loose everything?
5. What main programs from Vista will I loose. Dreamscene? "Switch Between windows" using the desktop scrolling ? The sidbar gagets? Hp advisor? Ect....
6. My computer right now runs great and everything works the way I like it. Will an upgrade to windows 7 really make it an even better PC experience or will it just cause a bunch of problems and headaches?
7. I guess the last question is.... Is my IQ816 just simply just to old of a model to make all the above worth while and run smoothly? I mean at the time, the IQ816 was the biggest and badest. 23 inch sceen, blue ray player and everything. So Should I or shouldn't I. Thanks in advance.
