I have had my IQ506 for a year now and recently tried to use the sd card reader for the first time .

When I insert the card  nothing happens, the little green light does not come on , nothing comes up on the screen.  However if I push on the card  and hold it in I can get it to read and view the pics that are on the card . soon as I release the pressure it will no longer read the card .

I just got this back from HP a few days ago. This problem is why i sent it to them in the first place.

Is there a trick to getting it to lock in place so it will read ? I have tried a different sd card and it didnt work either .

thanks for the help

I hate to say it, but it sounds like a defective card reader assy that they didn't fix.
Just so you don't think you're crazy, here's how mine works.
Insert SD card label facing the front of the PC, it goes in to the reader maximum, not the card maximum, approximately 1/4" of the SD card sticks out, OS sees it, all is fine.

When I'm done, I press the card and it releases its catch, and now 1/2" of the card is out, and I pull it out.

If it never catches at the point where the card only sticks out 1/4", the reader may be bad.

Thanks Diane,
I guess I will be making another phone call to HP.

my condolences... :(
but if it's never catching all the way in, then it's bad, of course I'd try as many SD cards as I could to be sure since I have seen a number of them built poorly in the past few years.
