Depending on how they "fixed" your machine, the \hp folder may contain the majority of your files, it's still sloppy work to do what they did, and I'll bet it wasn't HP that did the work for you, they usually just put the default HP factory image on the unit.
This also means that you probably told the unit "no, no, I don't NEED to make recovery media" since it's pretty good at nagging you about that, the good news? buying the Recovery kit from HP is under $30!, that's the direction I'd go.

Hello everyone, i'm new here and have a question for some of you TS elders :)
I recently sent my Touchsmart IQ771 away to be repaired. When it (finally) got delivered back to me, to my horror, i found that my recovery partition had been deleted and extended, my main drive formatted and the TS software had disappeared. I was obviously furious. I've been searching around for a while now and have found no conclusive answer to my issue.
I still have the 'hp' folder where the drivers & documentation etc. are kept, but i have no idea how to reinstall the software.
Can it be downloaded from somewhere, is it in the hp folder i have?
Please help, i miss my TS software :(
TIA.
Hi Diane, thank you for your reply.
You're indeed correct in saying HP did NOT do the work. I'll not mention specifics as to who did, but rest assured i won't be using them ever again.
The hp folder is an exact copy as per the first ever boot (hidden in C:\). I know the .txt file is awkward to look through but there are plenty of .exe files in there i'd have thought would be relevant but i cannot be sure.
Unfortunately, i cannot afford to pay for the recovery kit that is available and even if i could, i cannot find anywhere in the UK that holds it and i'd refuse to pay for shipping from the USA.
What makes this situation even more infuriating is that it was my DVD drive malfunctioning, that's why it was sent away....why they even messed with partitions is beyond my understanding.....
Thanks for your time :)
whoops.. I thought I saw a US flag there, HP UK should be able to provide the DVD's for you.
The good news? most of the apps are there, you just need to click and install as needed, it takes some time and patience, read the readme and setup.ini files in the folders and that will help you do it.
lol, you did see a US flag, my mistake.
Could you please be a little more specific in letting me know where the apps reside in the hp folder?
Thank you again for your help Diane.

I can't be more specific, you really do just have to dig in and look at every folder and see what looks like something you want. Pretty much you can't do a huge amount of damage by installing things from it.

Rsvr855, if you are running Windows 7, you can download and use my installer application for all the touchsmart software. Will be easier than rooting through the hard drive for all the specific files.
