Hey again! So I decided to go ahead and upgrade after many good replys to my questions. Just to refresh your memory, I have a touchsmart iq816 now with window 7 home premium 64bit. Upgraded from vista HP 64. Here are my issues after the upgrade.

1. Where is Canvas? It does not or did not transfer as part of the upgrade. It does not appear as a download for my model PC (IQ816) on The HP site. I was able to search for it and download it successfully from the site but I can not add it as a tile to my touchsmart 3.0 and yes i have upgraded to the most up to date touchsmart software. How to I get this to work or do you know of a specific area to download canvas for my model that will work?

2. Where is the webcam? My all in one pc has a webcam that worked fine in touchsmart before. It was located in the videos tile where there was a specific button to activate it. In the new touchsmart 3.0 it does not appear to be in the videos section anymore. I see that it now has its own tile/software but can not add it either. This time however, there was a download on HP's site specifically for my model PC but it still does not work. I will say that my webcam does work outside of touchsmart using youcam as well as while using skype. What is interesting about skype is that it lets me choose between using the HP Cam as apposed to the youcam and the HP Cam works just fine inside od skype. What am I doing wrong? Why cant I add webcam and canvas to touchsmart 3.0?

3. Videos not showing preview thumbnails in touchsmart? It works just fine. I can see all my videos with their names and when I click on them they play just fine in touchsmart. However, It refuses to show a preview thumbnail for any of them. It showed preview thumnails just fine in my old touchsmart software. I guess its not that big a deal but it kind of takes away from the touchsmart experience when it just shows a generic video role instead of previewing an image of the video like when viewing pictures.

4. Multi Touch? Can anyone confirm that they have multi touch on there IQ816 using windows 7? Obviously, I can't try it in canvas but I thought you were able to use multi touch in windows 7 outside of touchsmart. For example, when looking at my pictures I can now flick back and forth effortlessly but can not use multi touch to rotate, pinch, zoom, ect... Is there a way to turn multi touch on or something? I know at the very least my IQ816 had multi touch within the old touchsmart software using vista because I could use two fingers at once to make the tiles larger or smaller.

Thanks again in advance. I will say that my blu-ray and touchsmart media DVD still work!!!!!! In fact, the whole upgarde process was rather smooth. Everything else works like a charm and I didn't loose a single file/picture/video/program/song, ect..... I did have to update some programs to get them to work after the upgrade such as my Norton securtiy but that was easy.

Have you gone to HP.com and downloaded the updated Win7 applications and drivers for your machine? (there are a LOT)that will take care of most of the issues, including multi-touch.

Please check www.hp.com/support , search application and drivers for your machine. After installing drivers/apps for Win7 you should be fine.

Thanks for your help. I now have multi touch and as suggeted I updated all the applications and drivers (with exception to original drivers).

My question is, should I also download the "original drivers" for my PC on the HP site cause they aren't really described as updates like everything else?

I still can't get the touchsmart webcam tile to activate.

I still cant find where to download and add touchsmart canvas.

My touchsmart videos tile still refuses to show thumbnail previews.

Any other ideas that could help?

the answer is yes,
you should download the drivers,
original drivers mean,
those are the original windows 7 drivers,
not original vista drivers,

so the driver version are different to vista drivers???

windows update could also download these for you
but there were one or 2 i had to do myself...

Thanks again but unfortunately, the 4 links you gave me did not work.

1. The canvas link and recipe link downloaded just fine and said "download completed." Also, I can now see each application in my programs folder along with the other touchsmart applications. However, when I go into touchsmart I do not see these programs as well as I do not have the ability to create a tile for them. The "touchsmart program" button in the create tile section is not lit up so I guess it does not recognize them on my PC.

2. The touchsmart link app and the webcam app fail as well but they will not even download successfully. each link stops and says that my "system does not meet the minimum requirements."

You ask if I downloaded the "hp upgrade windows 7 pack?" I assume you mean the CD's that came in the mail. One CD is titled "windows 7 Home premium Upgrade Media" by microsoft. The other is titled "HP Upgrade assistant." Neither say the words "HP upgrade windows 7 pack." I used both CD's as required. Am I missing some other "pack" that I need to download from their site?

More info......

I updated everything on the HP site for my model and software/drivers/applications. However, there were a couple of issues.

1. Original drivers - Original HP keyboard, ACPI Buttons and OSds Driver (download would not complete) - Original Broadcom Bluetooth Driver (download completed but then a pop up saying that "the device failed to install.")

2. Software/Solutions - Windows Help and support update (download would not complete)

Any other Ideas as to why I can't get canvas and the webcam to work? If I haven't mentioned it yet, I do now have multi-touch and my preview thumbnails for my videos in touchsmart also now works. So we have solved 2 out of my 4 original proplems. Thanks in advance.

canvas,recipebox,touchsmart link,webcam,
all these will install the same way,
for example once the web-cam file is downloaded,
place it into a new folder,
then use winrar and extract the files,
from the 3 files extracted,
click on hptouchsmartwebcam and extract you will get a hp folder,
go into the folder
and into the src folder and double click setup,
once installed,
you will need to register the app so the tile appear in the touchsmart interface,

to do this it the same as recipe box,
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/TouchSmart-PC/How-to-install-Recipe-Box/td-p/189935
so follow the steps from 11,

go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\TouchSmart\SmartCenter 2.0"
hold shift and right click in a empty area,
in the windows click on open command window here,

type the following in the command prompt
RegisterSmartCenterApp updateconfig

dont press enter right yet,
go back to the webcam folder you extracted,
go into the folder label xml - bottom,
drag the xml file into the comand prompt window and hit enter,

the webcam tile should appear now,

you'll have to do the same thing for the other apps,

for keyboard drivers i had the same problem,
what i did was extract the driver file and install manually...

Shuk, there's a definate problem with the ACPI/Buttons downloads for IQ5xx and IQ8xx Win7 upgraded machines via the HP website, they install but don't actually work.

Machines upgraded with the HP upgrade assistant process and HP CD/DVDs don't have the issue.

Just an FYI for those on the thread.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for helping get everything to work. I now have canvas, webcam, multi-touch, recipe box, and all other issues have been resolved. My update to windows 7 from vista is now complete!!!! Everythng works just great. I will say that I didn't use every single approach stated in this thread to solve my problems but 90% of my issues were solved right here. later, I will post some links of the other threads in this forum that helped me, along with anything else I feel can help others in the future, should they run into the same problems. Again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS.... The only one I haven't tried yet is the "Touchsmart Link" app. Is it worth the trouble and what is it exactly?

Diane..Thaks for updating with this. I need to check this..I will revert if I get some solution for this.

Ok, so here is how I solved all my issues.....

1. Multi-Touch - On the HP site under "software/drivers" I searched my model PC (IQ816) and software (windows 7 64 bit). Than, under "Driver - Display" I downloaded the driver called "NextWindow Multi-Touch Device Driver Update."

2. Preview Thumbnails for videos in touchsmart 3.0 - Don't know exactly why it started working but I assume it had something to do with updating all my applications and drivers that were available on the HP Site mentioned above.

3. Canvas - Well prior to recieving the reply by "ACIDFORUM" on this thread to "manually" install the apps I found a thread on this forum that helped me first, titled "Touchsmart 3.0 Bottom Tile Help! Getting canvas/recipebox and notes on older touchsmarts!" Here is the link.

 http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/forum/thread/2002/Touchsmart-3.0-Bottom-Tile-Help-Getting-canvas-recipebox-and-notes-on-older-touchsmarts/?highlight=canvas

Anyway, to sum up, at first I donloaded the app from the HP site. It downloaded just fine but I could not add it in touchsmart 3.0. The link above tells you to find the xml for the canvas app that you download, most likely in the folder, C:\HP\TS\DefaultAppSettings. Than copy the xml to the folder, C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\TouchSmart\SmartCenter 2.0\UpdateAppSettings. This worked like a charm for me.

4. Recipe Box - I used the same formula as in canvas however recipe box was not available for download for my model pc on the HP site like canvas was. So I used the link provided by "Acidforum" in this thread. Both work, however my question is that should I start over with canvas and recipe box and "manually" install them as "Acidforum" suggests? Will I have issues with those programs unless I do manually install them? I will say that my only issue with canvas is that it will not transfer every single picture properly. Some pictures are just a black square, rectangle, ect... Is this because of the way I installed it or do some types of photos just not work in touchsmart?

5. Web Cam - This program was not available for my model on the HP site. When I used the link provided by "Acidforum" it would not successfully download like Canvas and Recipe Box. So this time, I did follow Acidforum's instructions and manually installed the app. I used the link provided titled "How to install Recipe Box" as a guideline as well. Everything worked fine until it was time to register the app by using command prompt. The register failed everytime. I searched in the thread "How to install Recipe box" to see if anyone was having the same issue. Sure enough, on the bottom of page 1, I found an answer. I than followed the advice from the thread and manually registered the app. I did this by once again finding the xml for the app (if you manually installed the app the xml "bottom" will be in the folder you extracted) and this time I coppied it into the folder, C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\TouchSmart\SmartCenter 2.0\DefaultAppSettings. And than it worked.

 So there you have it.
