Do you have your actual Recovery Media? the 3 DVD set? that's what you need. You run the Recovery process, not install it, so the wording throws this discussion off.
There are some situations where the Win 7 install has changed the boot partition data, in those cases you need to delete all the partitions on the machine to allow the Recovery DVDs to work properly. You can do that with any MS-provided Vista or Win7 DVDs, even the free "try it out" DVDs

I installed a clean Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) and I want to restore my original software. F11 function don't work. If I tried to install HP Recovery Manager it's keep giving me error (259). Any ideea?
I am sorry. But you don't understand my problem. I want to recover from recovery partition wich is intact. But F11 won't work. It's a known issue (when a clean win7is installed) and i should install HP recovery manager update. But unfortunately when i tried to install it it's give me an error code 259.
I know you say I don't understand, but I'm saying that there are other options, and using your Recovery Media may be needed, and will get you the same results as the broken Recovery Partition issue.
The SP44455.exe SHOULD work, but if it doesn't, the default DVD Recovery media will. There are a number of ways a system can be upgraded that will break the recovery partition in ways that SP44455.exe will not be able to repair.
Diane
SP44455.exe it's not finishing installing. At the end is error 259. What that error ment to be. When I installed Win7 i let the partition intact. I miss that loader to start it. This update should solve it. But it's never finish installing. Same error with most HP applications updates. I didn't made any recovery dvd so it's imposible to use another option.
My recommendation? buy the Recovery DVDs, not making those before you upgraded is the core of your issue.
As I said, there are so many possible ways to break the recovery partition that if the installer for SP44555.exe isn't working, you're just going to have to walk away and buy the DVDs.
There have been posts here and on other sites as to how to force and use the recovery partition data, but it's not something that I'm going to just repost, you need to track them down on your own, figure out your comfort and skill level, and then use the approach that best works for you.
Have I mentioned that the best approach is to buy the Recovery DVDs direct from HP? (I know I sound like a broken record.. but that's the right way to fix this)
Diane
If partition isn't relaible they should include the dvd in the package. Anyway those are not available for Europe so this option is out of the question. Anyway is someone there who knows what error 259 refer about? This option appears not only with this update but with most updates. Were drivers which I couldn't install only if I run direct the msi file. HP always a disapointment.
The system gave you the opportunity to make the DVDs for yourself, it bugs you for a bit and you have to say "NO I don't want to make Recovery DVDs" They do this so you can have multiple ways to recovery if you have an issue in the Recovery partition, also keep in mind that the Recovery is not designed or intended to work with other operating systems installed after it, it's meant to work with the operating system that shipped with the computer. As I've said, there are plenty of ways the user themselves can break the Recovery partition.
HP in the EU also offers Recovery media for purchase, here's their page on Recovery in the EU http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&pr...
You say " I can install if only I had the *.msi" you can extract the contents of any of the HP sp#####.exe files with Winzip or WinRAR on your own.

That is a bit strange the recovery option not working at the bios prompt,
if you are sure the problem is being caused by windows 7 install,
then why not use any xp,vista or windows 7 disk and remove the windows 7 image,
and then try the recovery process at startup...

The Windows 7 install is known to mess up the MBR that lets you get into the Recovery partition, that's one of the reason the repair app was put out there.
I'm pretty sure if the OP extracted the Recovery fix tool manually and ran it, they might have a chance at the Recovery partition processes running, but then getting the DVDs is much more reliable.
I know in my case I couldn't get any of the Recovery media or the Recoveery partion to work until I went in with another DVD and wiped the partitions, then the Recovery DVDs worked fine.

sebi1964 said: anyone know what is the error 259?
sebi1964, the answer appears to be "no, we do not know that specific error code" but there are plenty of other ways around it.
Since you're saying it happens on multiple installers it would sound like there's some other contributing factor that causes it on multiple packages.
The best way around that it to just extract the contents of the file with WinRAR or WinZip and then run them, let us know if you continue to get that issue if you've extracted the contents first.
Diane
Diane is right,
if you download the recovery manager update,
and extract the file and manually install it,
the process should be successful
sebi1964 said: i tried. no luck. thanks.
You need to expand a bit on what you tried, and what failed, the information you've given doesn't help us help you.
Were you able to extract the files manually?
What failure do you have, and at what point?
Since your country does not support the sale of the Recovery media you may need to start over with your own personal copy of Vista or Win7

sebi1964 said: I manage to extract and run every exe and msi in those folder. Nothing.
Sebi,
You're really not helping, that's not much more information.
So you ran every *.exe and *.msi from sp44555.exe and got no errors? If that's the case with your descriptions being so different from everyone else, I'll have to say that I can't offer any more help, your system needs to be recovered but since you didn't make recovery disks you might need to buy a copy of Vista from a retailer and then install the applications on your own.
I would call HP support for your country and ask them the best way to proceed.
Diane
I ran install -same error code 259
hpprobar-never ends
From tools directory:
automod32-give back a list of parameters
commands -open DOS interface
HPBI-nothing
HPUtilCK-appear a very fast DOS window
HPUtilSL-appear a very fast DOS window
isRunning-same
uIni-nothing
From Source directory:
Win7UpgradeRecovery-unzip 2 files and a directory which contains MBR.dll and MBR configuration files
a batch file there but nothing
I hope I was detailed enough.
Problem solved. I used disk management to set recovery partition active. I reboot and pres f11 and restore the PC. Beware!!! Probably you will not be able to boot in win7 in case that will not work so you will need an utility cd to set the partition back.
