Let's say for a moment that you could set up Media Center to see your xbox video signal through the S-Video port. You'd run into an additional problem. Media Center doesn't show you the signal from the port "live", but with a few seconds of delay. This is because it records the signal to the hard drive first, and then plays it back from there. This allows for the "pause live TV" feature, and will totally, utterly wreck your game experience. You'll basically see what happened in the game a few seconds ago, and you'll have no way to react in time to anything that's going on in the game.

Unless you were a ninja and could see several seconds into the future...(or past)

@GeekTieGuy: Thats annoying, but since all i need it for is to check some real time memory pokes im sending to my dev kit, i could live with it.

@Diane: I like how you think, haha.

The Svideo port is not an input port, it is output so you could display your computer screen on a TV. It does not work both ways.

A TV tuner is required to take signal into the computer and display it.

jollywombat,

Sorry, that's inaccurate. I've seen what the S-Video connector goes to on the inside, and it's another input to the TV Tuner. It's not a video out.

Alexx,

In that case, do a little searching for how to set up Media Center with an S-Video input. Here's one I found on the Green Button: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/p/19347/95023.aspx

This actually claims to introduce no delay, so maybe you'll actually be able to play this way...

Really...? Okay, my apologies then, when he said it requested a TV tuner for it to work that seemed to say that it wasn't an input and just the standard output. Thanks for letting me know :).

okay, i tried it and when i open DScaler, in sources it has no option for S-Video. The only options it has are Webcam and Patterns.

You guyse know anything about this?

Alexx-
Hope you get this working. I my experience w/HP, the S-Video is only video out, with there being a signal level return so the software can discriminate between the balance levels of the channels for s-vid.

What will likely work is if you can get ahold of one of the video inputs that people use for input such as those put out by pinnacle or roxio or avid. Just be careful - some of the older models do not work with Windows 64 bit. The USB model that comes with the Roxio Creator series works well and has an S-Video input. You only need the correct driver with most of these and then the additional input should show up in DScalar or I even just use the supplied Windows Media Encoder rather than the whole Roxio program.

Good luck!

This thread covers the pros, cons, options and has links to additional resources needed to complete the process on models that have a TV tuner input. If you review them you should be able to put together how to make it work on models with a TV Tuner.

It's not a quick or simple process which is why the later 600 series units have an HDMI-in option.

I finally got Xbox on my touchsmart!!! lol Dscaler worked perfectly with no lag and everything. The only thing is that it has to run Windows 7 basic color scheme...but anyways it is great and after like 2 years trying to hook up my xbox to the computer i finally got it to work.

@PsD_023, how did you get it to work? Mind sharing how you did it? I've been trying to hook my xbox to my computer for two years as well and have had no luck!

Have you reviewed the links and discussions in this thread? it's got a good grasp on the pieces you need to be able to make it work, there's nothing more anyone can really add.
