I recently purchased a tx2z and needed to change the OS from Vista Home to Vista Enterprise. Since there is no direct upgrade path I was forced to reinstall from scratch. I have installed all of the drivers and software provided on the HP support site but, my multi-touch is still not working. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where i can find this software?

 Cheers,

 Scott

I received many suggestions to use the HP utilities to restore the image using the backup discs that I made, but apparently they didn't realize that won't fix the issue. The problem is the Vista OS I need (Enterprise) isn't available through HP, I need a different partition set, and the image that ships with the machine is loaded with bloated software that I don't need or want. I was also asked to contact HP customer service. However, they would only help me after I recovered my original factory shipped image.

The answer, for anyone else that needs to do this, is to copy the C:\SwSetup directory to an offline store BEFORE you wipe the hard drive. Once you have that you can reinstall your needed OS and install the necessary drivers and software.

Before doing any of this I strongly recommend making a set of back up discs using the HP recovery manger that ships with the laptop (3 blank DVDs needed in my case). After that I repartioned the harddrive to allow for BitLocker and installed the OS from scratch. I then installed all of the drivers, except Touchpad. I found that I only needed to install the following addtional software, QLB (Quick Launch Buttons), DPFPR (Digital Persona) and all of the Media Smart applications(MSMenu, MSDVD, MSMVP, MSTV, MSWebcam). I also installed Office 2007 (Enterprise, OneNote, Project and Visio). I then ran several Windows Updates and made a backup of the image.

My new image now cold boots almost a full minute faster than it did when it was shipped.

Glad to see you figured it out and thanks for posting the solution. I am wanting to reinstall the OS to get rid of the bloatware, and this help a lot.

Did you notice any loss in functionality by switching from Home Premium to Enterprise (i.e. loss of Media Center)?

Thank you,
CNBrammer
