So I have been taking notes on my Tx2-1020us a lot lately.  I was not entirely impressed with the pen performance since, I have upgraded to WIN7 Pro 64bit, so the other day I got around to upgrading to the latest Driver and Firmware from the HP website.  Everything was working great until my battery needed to be charged.  Once I plugged the power in the pen was useless.

I messed around with it for a few hours and I could not get anywhere, trying the old drivers and a bunch of work arounds, so I let it sit for a day.  Tonight I came back to it and things were still bad.  I sat back and thought about what changed.

I upgraded the driver and things were fine for about half the day.  It dawned on me that my troubles started when I pluged my tx2 in to charge the battery.

So tonight I unplug it and thing are back to being really good.  So I thought about it a little more and I have been using a 3rd part power supply that does not have the third prong on it for the ground.  When I use that power supply my pen performance goes down the drain it is really bad.

So I tried the HP power adapter that came with the TX2 and the pen performance goes back to being really good.  Strangest thing.  The grounded power supply works like a charm, the 3rd party unit kills the pen.

So to take things a step further I plug the 3rd party power supply into my UPS and hook up the Tx2.  The pen works like a charm!!!

So there is some sort of noise on my electrical service that causes the PEN on the Tx2 to act eratically.  The grounded power supply sends the noise to ground.  The UPS filters out the noise when I use the 3rd part ungrounded power supply.  It is all really really strange.

So my best guess is that there are a few things going on.  The Tx2 that I have is effected by an external source of noise comming through the power system in my home.  The newer drivers/firmware are more sensitive to this noise for some reason.  I was happy with the pen performance in vista, and I was sort of happy with it in Win7 until I got the latest drivers.  Now with the real power supply I am happy with the pen performance again.  HP must have missed something quality wise since this seems to be happening to a lot of people but in a different manner.  So in the end it is back to the stock power supply to me and Inkey Goodness.
