I recently purchased an IQ506 basically because it will be beneficial to my wife who has poor eyesight.  My problem is that I made the Vista ICONS larger but now the Touchsmart Icons at the bottom are only partially visible and not accessible.

Is there a way that I can correct this?

Thanks

Did you change the Vista DPI setting to make the icons larger? If so that's a known issue with the HP TouchSmart software.

You've got to be kidding ..... that's why I purchased this technology genre.

We have an updated version of the software with a fix for the high DPI issue, but I don't know if or when it will be available through the HP Support website.

Sorry, "we" is the team of software developers on the HP TouchSmart software team.

Ok thanks.
Do you have any suggestions? or just switch size back and forth between using Vista and TS?

Switching the DPI size back and forth will require a restart every time. Not a good interim solution, I think. You can try to play with some of the system metrics, as they're sometimes called. The easiest way to get there is right click on the Windows Desktop, select "Personalize", then "Window Color and Appearance", then "Open classic appearance properties for more color options", then the "Advanced..." button in the lower right.

Now you can change some of the sizes of things in the "Item:" drop-down box. For example, Active Title Bar, Caption Buttons, Menu and Scrollbar.

This is what the Touch Optimizer does that you can download from the HP Support site, although I've seen several people report problems with running that tool.

To make the desktop icons bigger, you can click somewhere on the Windows Desktop, then hold the Ctrl key down on the keyboard while rolling the mouse wheel up (or down). Each click of the wheel will change the desktop icon size either making it bigger or smaller.

you can also make your icons larger and smaller "on the fly" by simply holding down the "control" key on the keyboard (Ctrl) and scrolling the wheel on your mouse up and down. This works within windows but not the touchsmart interface.

Geek Tieguy,

There is actually a "Magnifier" in Vista. By activating this it gives my wife the best of both worlds. She can Magnify anything in Vista just by pointing the cursor at it or see what she is typing in the "magnify" window while still not affecting the Touchsmart screen. This way we avoid restarting each time the DPI is changed.

THIS MAY HELP OUTER "SIGHT IMPAIRED" PEOPLE.

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

I discovered the Magnifier, too.  Laughing

I use it when I'm in the kitchen and can see the HPTS on the dining room table from over the kitchen counter.  The wireless mouse works well at a distance, and I can have it on the kitchen counter and use Magnifier to help me navigate the desktop from afar.

VERY nice!

Is the update for this out yet? I changed my screen resolution to make everything bigger, and of course, it murdered the TouchSmart software. I don't use the TS stuff that much, as I work a few feet away from the screen, but I still like having it on here.

My wife who uses the touchsmart and who is a clean freak could not deal with looking at smudge on the screen so now she uses one of those throw-away 1/2" sponge paint brushes and it works great!

I have Glucomma and find reading a bit hard. I bought Naturalreader off the internet. It reads aload sleceted text. I like playing with the TS, but sometimes freakout about the smudges. I went to staples and bought a pointing stylas for nentindo game. (it's like a 6 inch long pen three in a pack. for $6.99. Works like a charm !!

Sorry, not yet. There is work being done to address some non-technical issues with pushing out the updates.

The update that addresses the DPI issue is now available from the HP Support site. Right now the link is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-6835...

But be aware that the link might change in the future.

Thanks Geek,

I downloaded it and it seems to be working so far. At least all the Icons show on the screen for TS.
