Actually, it can be used in MS Word. I have Office 2007 and when used in conjuction with Tablet PC INPUT PANEL, it is quite neat. I can control most of the menu items with a touch. However, the mouse is handy for small buttons. Adding text is by either onscreen typewriter keys or by writing with my index finger. If you get the chance, get a TS, I am having alot of fun with mine.

ANY programs that run on Windows will work on the Touchsmart. All it is is a regular computer (pardon the expression) with a touch screen interface and a software suite that works with windows vista to add to the "touch experience".
I can easily exit out of the touchsmart software and run in regular windows mode to run any of my other programs I normally use.

Using the touchscreen is just like using a mouse. Wherever you touch, the mouse pointer goes. You can click in individual cells in Excell, highlite and drag text in word. There are lots of possibilities. You can also use the onscreen keyboard and see if your capslock key is getting stuck. (grin)

OK wANTS TS here is a partial list of applications you can use the touchscreen with. This is only a partial list, I'm sure there are more but this list should give you a good idea. Just click the link below.

is there A MEDIa centre on the touchsmART ?
I'M NOT tALKING about the touchsuite softWare it comes with.
i've been seeing stuff AROUND THE NET about A MEDIa centre. wHat's thAT about?

January 2, 2009 1:42 PM

Media Center is a Windows app. It's pretty cool and works well with the touchscreen and the remote that comes with the HPTS.

I was joking when I posted that link. I am saying that any program will work with the touchscreen. Some better than others. Cooliris is a nice touch friendly application, for example. There are a couple of threads here about nice touch based software. Some games are even more fun with touchscreen. You can lay roads in Simcity with your finger. You can Shoot peds with your finger in GTA. The touchscreen works with pretty much any software that you can use a mouse with, in other words, any program. Some websites even rock harder with touch. Hulu.com has a nice touch friendly interface.

thAT SOUNDS NICE.
HOW IS WORLD OF WarcrAFT and spore on the touchscreen?
how does it mAKE IT UNIQUE Rather thAN USEIN THE MOUSE and keyboARD?

January 2, 2009 2:25 PM

Warcraft is much cooler with touch. I haven't played it but I watched my nephew playing it and he loved it on the TS. Haven't played Spore. I also love playing Lionheads The Movies with touch, you can drag your actors around with ease. One problem with games is that if you don't change your Nvidia settings to do not scale and your game doesn't support 1680X1050 then the characters may be a little fat. If you do use do not scale then the touchscreen becomes pretty much useless. In full screen my Sims are all chubby. lol

do u use the onscreen keyboArd?
is it troublesome to repeatedly needing to open the keyboARD EVERYTIME?
WOULDN'T IT BE Easier to use the normAL KEYBOard?
how else cAN THE TOUCHSCREEN BENEFIT ME OTHER THan selcting text AND PLaying some gAMES?

January 2, 2009 5:43 PM

The onscreen keyboard is cool but I never use it.

One way to use the Touchsmart PC would be to try and cure cancer. I mean if you are up to it. Curing cancer by touch is much cooler than just curing cancer the old fashioned way. Or maybe communicating with aliens. That would be cool to communicate with aliens on a touch screen. And virtual bubble wrap rocks on touchscreen.

hey
is the touchsmart multi-touch?

January 3, 2009 12:20 PM

sort of!
i know that is not a good answer, if you have a iphone then you will know what you want in a multi-touch, the touchsmart 810 does have multi but its no where as good as the iphone.

January 3, 2009 3:18 PM

wAT Can muti-touch be used for other thAN RESIZING and sortin pics?

January 3, 2009 3:38 PM

Not to sound rude but the caps/lowercase is getting on my nerves a bit. Makes reading a bit difficult.

Ranting aside, what can you do? You can scroll through you music, select songs to play, navigate through your calendar and create appointments, open and close programs...almost everything is at your fingertips.

Yes, it is a bit of a novelty and I feel like it will mature and improve with time. I also feel like features can be added if developers listen to people like us who use it..and ask questions.

By all means, if you have an idea for something to do with touch...let it be known.
I hate to compare it, but look at all that can be done with touch on the iPhone. (ugh... I said it)

And, with multitouch, you can apparently paly a cool looking piano keyboard on your screen. (saw that video somewhere)

Sorry about the typing rant but after a long day of trying to read doctors crappy writing, I like to look at clean typed text. (grin)

With some Nerf darts you could turn your screen into a dartboard.

You can bounce a rubber ball off the screen while in Photoshop to create some conceptual art.

Try to open notepad by blowing bubbles at your screen. Keep a hanky handy.

Turn the lights out and let some moths in and see if they try and communicate with you on the screen.

You can pretend you are Tom Cruise in Minority report and you don't even need the special glove.

If you have telekinetic abilities you could levitate a pencil eraser to do all of your tasks.

But my favorite is using my pinky toes to make Zwinkys.

Jerry, you just made my day! Thanks for the chuckle.
