Corrupt bios potentially if it cant load its own setup?

Touchsmart Tx2z Laptop: AMD ZM-87 CPU, 4gb Corsair DDR2 2x2gb, 256gb Corsair Performance SSD, Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition.
i have an IQ524 that when I turn the power on it quickly goes to a light blue screen with the hp and intel logos on it and it has the following options towards the bottom of the screen:
F10 = Setup F11 = System Restore
ESC = Boot Menu F9 = Diagnostics
If i press F10, it says "Entering Setup..." but nothing ever happens. When I press ESC, it says "Loading Boot Menu..." but nothing ever happens. When I press F11 or F9, nothing changes. I tried putting in the first HP System Restore Disc but after the disc spins for a couple of minutes nothing else happens.
Any ideas?

Have you tried replacing/pulling the hard drive?
I'm wondering if it's just flaky enough that it's getting in the way, I'd also consider pulling the hard drive so that you would boot into the "no boot media available" status.

I'm with Diane on thsi one too. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a bad hard disk drive.
Another thing to check is your memory. Its under the same cover as the HDD. Try removing one of the modules then reboot. If that fails, remove the second module and replace it with the first one and try rebooting.

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
We have had the same problem, 2 months after the garantuee had passed...
The reason was a crashed harddisk. We put in a new one, not seagate, and now all works perfectly.
My suspicion is tha HP has bought, on the "family computers spot market" a bad cluster of HD:s. Their reputation is not increasing!
I have another - laptop 18 inch screen "HDX premium series" with lots of problems.
Perhaps are so called family computers from HP to be avioded?
Perhaps you had the same HD problem with your computer?
Hope you have solved it!
Probably a disk crash - HP has probably boought a cluster of bad HD:s. I our case, at least, the HD had crashed. With a new one (not seagate) all works perfectly.

There was a known issue found in the Seagate models that HP and many other manufacturers were using, this wasn't found until a few months after they had gone out in large distribution.
You can't blame the Seagate's with bad firmware on HP this time.

but if the hard drive was dead the touchsmart should be able to enter bios,
did you ever get a warning message previous to this when the system was running,
when my drive started to die i got a message on start to backup and replace

I would think so too, but sick hard drives can lead to some very weird behavior, so I always say yank it to be sure..
