I have the original TouchSmart (IQ770) that I've been using for quite awhile and it seems that the technology using in the touchscreen reacts a little differently from the newer generation model when I was playing around with it.

I can't really place my finger on it and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience or if I'm just delerious!  Things like scrolling and the sensitivity seem very different.

There was quite a large improvement in the touch technology after the IQ700 series. That's why the 700s come with a stylus, but the 500s and 800s don't... The touch accuracy and sensitivity were improved so as to be able to use a finger.

The main difference between the IQ770 and the IQ500/IQ800 is the way the touch screen identifies itself to the operating system. On the IQ770 it basically behaves like a mouse, whereas on the IQ500/IQ800 it behaves like a digitizer device.

That may very well make a difference in how if feels when interacting with it. Plus, the IQ500/IQ800 software has scrolling, where the IQ770 software doesn't.
