Hello,  I'm relatively new.  Just got to open the box and pull the toy out yesterday.

Today I'm noticing quite a bit of shimmer on the display.  Is this normal?  I poked around in the Graphics Card control panel and can't find a way to change the refresh rate.  Can't seem to change the monitor, either.  It says the monitor is a Generic PNP.  Somehow, I suspect these two issues are connected.

Suggestions MUCH appreciated!

The Touchsmart fixed refresh rate is 60 Hertz. The monitor will be listed as Generic PnP Monitor, and then it should list what graphics card it is on. That isn't quite indicative on their being an issue.

You may want to update the graphics driver or even first start by reinstalling the version that is stored on the factory partition using the Recovery Manager just to eliminate that this is due to a change to that driver or its settings.

I noticed that today too. Cought a couple "flickers" out of the corner of my eye a couple times while not looking at the screen. Not consistent...looks more like a light bulb when the power fluctuated...kinda like a computer hiccough.

Thanks, guys... I think it's a case of me just being ultra picky. The more I use it, the less I notice it. :-)

Looks like the shimmer was a warning. 36 hours into unpacking the computer, the video card died suddenly. When I called HP, they told me it would take up to 45 days to repair. Obviously, that's unacceptable. Fortunately, BestBuy was kind enough to swap out for another of the same model.

Fingers crossed that 2x is the charm.
