Hello:

I have a TouchSmart iQ816T that came with Windows Vista-64.  The hard disk blew up and I replaced it.  At that time, I purchased Windows 7 64-bit from Best Buy and installed it.  Then, I downloaded the TouchSmart software and re-loaded it.  Some things don't work correctly.

I was shocked to hear an HP support rep told me that I had to update the TouchSmart software manually, since Windows 7 that isn't purchased from HP directly is NOT SUPPORTED.  The manual update requires about 30 individual updates.  There is no automatic update that will update all of the updates at one time.

How can this be???  Has anyone updated their old Vista TouchSmart PC and found a way to update the Touchsmart software such that everything is in synch and stays updated automatically?

Thanks,

Paul

Hello:

Apparently, the support agent gave me the wrong information.  The HP Update program works as expected.  It aggregates the updates so I don't have to do each individually.

Even then, it's not unheard of that the manufacturer does not support an OS for an OS not shipped with the computer, but as you've found out the good news is that HP has full support of the applications for those who upgraded, not all manufacturers do that, I give them a thumbs up for that.

Wow, ok...

So, if I upgrade my IQ800 series Touchsmart to Windows 7 Home Premium, all I have to do is use the HP update program and don't have to individually install the 30+ updates HP has listed?

That would be very welcome news indeed!

No, that's not accurate, the HP update doesn't always give you what you needed, look here on the forums for Jolly Wombat's All in One installer, it works great for desktops.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply.

Is there any order you would suggest?

Install Windows 7 upgrade, do windows update, do HP update, and then run the AIO installer?

Or?

:)

dude...

please, choose a thread and stick with it, you've asked the same think in multiple threads.

Install Win7 clean
Install all your drivers and MS updates
Install the AIO updater
Install any patches from HP that came after the AIO updater.

Install your applications that are not HP provided

Hmmm, thanks!

But I looked over all most posts and did not find where I posted this exact same question, or anything close to it....

Thanks again!

It's not that you're asking exactly the same question, but you've chimed in on multiple threads in regards to upgrades to Win7, rather then bouncing around all over the place, just trust those who have come before and have posted great advice, and run with it..I promise, it's not as hard as many people think!
