I just ordered an IQ506 and all I see are negative posts about the entire TS series.  I'm a bit concerned about my purchase to say the least.   I guess worse case is that I return it to HP for a refund but I for one would like to see some positive posts about the TS series..............that is, if there are any?    :)

Me...I'm happy.

Take into consideration that most people go searching the net for info and support forums when they have a problem so you are more likely to see posts about people having problems.

For most general PC users, a touch interface is a new experience so there is a bit of adjustment curve as far as use goes.

There are some issues particularly with media sharing that I have read about but hopefully that will be fixed soon.

I love mine. I just don't love the Touchsmart software.

Yep, me too. The hardware is fantastic, but the Touchsmart software I'm afraid isn't up to much. I'm sure it will be a lot better in the future, but right now it just feels like pre-beta software with some glaring omisions to its functionality.

That is disappointing to hear. The TS software is one of the main reason for my purchase. Do you think HP will improve upon the TS Software? Have they updated it at all since it's inception?

I just got back from my local Best Buy in hopes of toying around with the TS a bit. To my dismay, they told it has been discontinued. They did have the new HP Laptop with TS.

January 5, 2009 2:52 PM

It is true that HP will develope the TS sofware in the future no doubt about that but we don't know when there will be a upgrade now this is the main problem but i know that the upgrade will be much better for example toys and gadgets etc, all we can do now is wait.....wait.....and wait again.

To my knowledge, the TouchSmart series is not discontinued. Looks like your Best Buy guy may have heard wrong.

I'll check into it though.

Nope, I saw it on the store monitor with my own eyes. Perhaps Best Buy has discontinued selling it?

Maybe a particular SKU. Maybe they're not selling the 504 anymore and instead are only selling the 506? Which model did you see listed as discontinued?

It was the 506 which is the model I ordered direct from HP.

bestbuy.com only has the (2) 25.5" models listed:

Was just looking that up. Hmmm.... wacky. Looks like I need to send out a few e-mails and see if I can get some word on what's going on.

Seems strange Best Buy would stop selling the more affordable TouchSmart...

Still listed at Staples:

Circuit City only has the 504 listed.
All other online retailers seem to have the 506 still listed except for Best Buy.

@robdam1001 - I implore you to buy at a retailer that will allow you to return the TS without a restocking fee; HP online; Costco; etc. Reason being: if you're buying for the TS software, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed, I know I was (see my thread in software with my personal list of issues).

I intended to have the TS be the kitchen machine my wife could use, one simplifying and enhancing the basic UI of Vista. Sure has promise, but is also very beta at this point; iTunes isn't compatible (keeps locking up the machine); weather tile keeps defaulting to Cupertino; no ability to print from Photos (or select from where your photos and videos are chosen for display); doesn't work with Windows Contacts; and I sure couldn't get it to work with Windows Calendar either.

Best of luck one way or the other.

One fine day when nobody cares anymore, the competitive situations are moot, and we're all old and gray, I'll tell you all a story about the conditions the HP TouchSmart was developed under. It's going to be a good story.

I'm already old & gray.

I ordered through HP Online since I AM concerned about the product and I may very well be returning the TS if it is not up to my standards.

Again, I think the TouchSmart is actually an amazing piece of hardware - in search of some amazing software. I have the IQ815, and the all-in-one design is right up there with the iMac and the Sony AIO desktops. Never mind the gorgeous 25.5" widescreen display and the RGB ambient lighting. And it doesn't hurt that they load it up with ample RAM and disk storage and Vista 64. I see the touch screen as a bonus. Yes, the TouchSmart application is a resource hog, and has a number of quirks, but as a top notch desktop with out wires, the TS is really great.

And remember, the touchscreen works with ALL applications - just like a mouse. So you never need to use the TS application if you don't want. Try using TS with iTunes in cover flow mode. Yeah, the multitouch doesn't work there, but it's totally usable. Try using the TS with ArtRage (and an actual paintbrush), and you'll have the most amazing on-screen painting experience you've ever had.

The TouchSmart is an awesome piece of hardware, just dying for some awesome software (I'm hopeful that Windows 7 will provide that foundation).

Maybe (hard to tell from the picture). The other conditions still apply, though. Laughing

Count me as very pleased with the 816t package. It has opened up tons of possibilities as a new entertainment center for me, though it does make DSL the new dial-up. I'm going to try 6 MBS U-verse and hope that's fast enough.
TS software makes walk up stuff easy and switching back and forth from Vista to TS is quick (In profiles where it's running in the background).
I wish I had waited for the T8400 processor, but really whats the speed gain of .16 GHz. Anyone?
The newly available TB hard drive is just too cool, I want a big GB pocket drive as to keep up.
Micro apps are the future. hopefully HP can sell enough TS to justify establishing an iphone app store scenario.
So there you go.
