im pretty sure that they are not proprietary, i have replaced my motherboard, and they look pretty complicated. refer to this if you have any questions on taking it apart. Good Luck!!

Hello everyone. I would like to begin by stating what a garbage product the Tx2z is. While I knew I was taking a risk purchasing one of the first multi-touch tablets, its deficiencies continue to astound me. That said, I am now feeling adventurous and would like to attempt two major alterations to my unit.
Firstly, I want to seperate the screen from the main body of the laptop - somehow lengthening the display & n-trig cables which connect them such that I could have the screen alone on my lap with the computer tethered several feet away.
Secondly, I would like to remove all of the plastic casing & discard of the dvd drive, housing the motherboard in a slim cooled case which I will design & build.
The main issue is finding a way to extend the cables which connect the screen to the motherboard. So, I have two questions for you more knowledgable folk out there.
Are these connectors proprietary, or are there appropriate cables I could buy from an electronics parts supplier to achieve this (similar to how one could lengthen an audio cable by purchasing a female TRS to male TRS cable).
If the connects are proprietary, is it possible to cut the cables a few inches before the connects, then wire in extra cable myself. I`m used to doing these kinds of alterations in the analog world, but I just don`t know how this translates to cables which transmit digital information.
Any illuminating information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You may have issues with the signals having to go farther than their drivers are meant to.

Honestly? I can't see drivers as an issue at all, I'm not sure why you think signal path length would make a difference.
The issue I see? it's a royal PITA to do what the OP is proposing, it's just not worth it IMNSHO, my time is worth more then the time it would take to hack this together, there are parts that are far better suited for this kind of project then gutting a Tx2.

Sorry, I guess the word driver is a bit ambiguous. I meant the transistor drivers that send the signal from the motherboard to the LCD. I don't think the driver chips in laptops are really designed to send their high-frequency signals more than a few inches. It may work, may not. Also, if the touch screen digitizer is on the motherboard rather than in the display, the longer cabling lengths may hurt its performance as well.
As I recall, the digitizer cable is internal laptop USB standard connections, so should be easy to extend that if that is the case.
Good luck with this project, and let us know how it turns out =). Pictures!
