Your comment really didn't fit in the thread about the desktops and their touchscreen since it's a completely different set of hardware, I moved it to the laptop section for you.
However the right answer is let HP fix it for you, they've already approved it, back up all your data before you send it out, and good luck.

I just got my HP Touchsmart Laptop today, and lo and behold the touchscreen does not work. I spent about 2 hours on the phone wiht HP Tech support, and they want me to ship it back. I have tried most of the stuff above, and none of it seems to work. I was hoping someone had some advice to prevent me from shipping this laptop out for 1-2 weeks...
