Unfortunately when you're giving a hard rule that says this has to be resolved without touching any of your data or programs you've managed to remove one of teh best and strongest solutions to your problem.
With the amount of garbage and crap that can get in to systems, there are times in troubleshooting where just wiping it is the correct answer.
I know that's not a huge help, but it's important to mention.

hi, i dunno if am posting at the right place, but i'm lookin for help any where... i hav a touchsmart tx2 1370us .. and recently it suddenly starts to just freeze, like completely freeze, unable to do aabsolutely anything, cant move the cursor, the keypad inputs dont work.. and it happens whether or not there is a program running, when i turn it on, within 5-9 mins it just freezes, it is not a hardware problem, i had the hardware checked by a friend of mine, i am running it in safe mode wit networking, thats what am using to post this... it works fine no freezes... can anyone offer some assistance as to what i cant do to get rid of this frezing problem.. i do not want to do a recovery and wipe my harddrive.. so can sum1 offer their opinion or jus tell me what u think i can do or is there a way to do some sort of settings restore without touching any of my progrms, downloads etc. cuz its running in safemode ... ty in advance .. oh am using win 7, i dunno if that wuld make a difference
Have you done a virus scan? You can also do a system restore, your files will be safe and unaffected, but your computer settings will be reverted to how it was on your chosen restore point.
Tx2-1011au
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-84
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
4GB RAM

There are too many factors that it could be. As you haven't provided any such factors, chances are you wouldn't know which ones are impossible. At this point, you're probably out of luck past the above suggestions, because you probably couldn't even lead us in the right direction toward finding your problem.
strangely, like an hour after posting my first message up top, my pc jus shuts off.. but i had to go out the same time, when i checked it bad today, its not turning on.. sigh. when i hit the power button it jus lights up and immediately comes bak off, i think am gonna just carry it to a technician but if u guys can offer some suggestions it'll be much appreciated
How did your friend check the hardware? Run ubuntu of a live cd and play around for an hour or so. If you get the same problem on this OS then it is a hardware fault.
I customised my HP tx2z with:
6GB RAM
400GB 5200rpm Hard Disk
2.4Ghz AMD Turrion Ultra x2 ZM-86
Bluetooth + Wireless N
Lightscribe DVD-RW drive
I live in the UK - But I imported my tx2 from america.
I've had the same freezing problem since around the beginning of July. My 1020ea worked OK for 12 months before that. It must be a driver / software problem as like the previous poster I'm writing this with the laptop running in safe mode with networking. What I cant quite believe is the Touchsmart forums are full of people with the same issue and no one from HP seems bothered to help. I'm sure flattening my machine and rebuilding it will work for a while but without any idea of the real issue its only a matter of time before the problem will return. I'm a software developer by trade and am very careful what I install on my work machine. I also have a clean virus check report. I suspect there is some incomparability with some HP driver code and either a Windows update or some other (fairly common) software or API call. I've called HP support who just fobbed me off with running the run-in tests from the BIOS (all clean).
I'm afraid without any more meaningful help this will be the last HP I buy, I'll be going back to Lenonvo Thinkpads.
HP please try and change my mind??
I'm starting to have the same problem myself, i've had mine for almost two years (I think it's a 1000 though), and I was curious to know what operating system people were running with this problem. I have 7 ultamite on mine, an upgrade from the vista it was running. I'm currently re-installing 7 onto it and doing a wipe, not sure how it's gonna turn out yet. I used to work at a repair shop so i have some hardware diagnostics that i ran, all clear and safe mode works as well.
ye so i got it checked out and... appearently its the main board, right now it wont come on at all..... sigh, its just over a year old, just passed its 1 year warranty, this really sucks. u kno as soon as i pulled out my tx2 and the technician saw it he was like "oh boi, i bet its the main board"... this pc appearently has a manufacturing fault, every tx2 that came to him he said that it was the same problem..
Beyond disspointed with HP - bought two Tx2 for office awhile back they froze up last year under extended warranty and stop working again last month. Took a chance and installed new hard drive, worked for about 10 hours run time before locking up and then just not booting at all. Pist is an understatement - I"m going back to my SONY VAIO. Bought HP collapsible headphones, they literal snapped after 3 days while sitting on my desk. Yes, HP - I do have a terrestrial radio show about small business technology and I will let everyone on Ustream, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook know how we on this page with this product feel about your lack of commitment to the customer!!!

noeldp said: Good to see I'm not alone, but thats small consolation. My tx2 is 2 years old and a month or so ago it started freezing about 5-10 min after booting. Runs fine in safe mode. Rolled back recovery a couple months but no help. Help, HP!
First, this isn't an HP run site, so you won't get HP help here, we're just folks helping folks.
Second, there is a TON, yes ton, both metric and imperial of trheads already on the Tx2 issues/dead problems, I highly recommend those existing threads to help you as opposed to this small thread.
