I noticed that the TouchSmart 300 doesn't have any place to plug in a HDMI or VGA cable. I've looked around the forums and I've found out that I would need to buy a USB to VGA cable to be able to connect it to my LCD TV. I'm pretty much just planning on watching movies and stuff through the tv.

So my questions are:

  1. Which one would be better? USB to HDMI or USB to VGA? (I would need sound on the tv)
  2. Do stores like Best Buy or Walmart sell these cables? (Considering that I'm not able to buy items online since I don't have paypal or anything)
  3. Do you know anyone that has a 300 and a cable to connect the pc to their tv? I would like to know their review about the cable they have and whatnot.

Thanks for any help! I'm going to try and get it right the first time by reading any replies to this thread

What you're trying to do is going to work poorly at best.
The Touchsmart line does not offer any native high quality output to a full size TV.

Honestly, it's 100% the wrong product for what you're looking to do, and the USB to HDMI dongles will be far FAR too expensive via retail, Paypal requires 1 thing, a bank account, you should be able to use it unless you are choosing not to for a specific reason.

Really? Do you think think they'll make any in a couple of years?

How expensive are we talking with the USB to HDMI dongles?

I'm a tad bit too young to get a bank account haha.

You're trying to use the wrong product for the wrong use, the Touchsmart desktop series is not designed to work with an external monitor, that's just a fact of life. If you wanted to drive an external monitor then you wanted a laptop with HDMI or a regular desktop with HDMI outputs.

There are USB to VGA dongles, and yes, WalMart has them, but they're not going to put up a decent image AND you need a TV with a VGA input. USB to HDMI adapters? let's just say they're not common, and start at about $150.

As the man once said, "use the right tool for the right job" and a Touchsmart desktop is not the right tool to drive an external TV.
