Hello,

I have a HP TouchSmart and I have looked around the forum and realised that the video card inside HP TouchSmart desktops cannot be changed due to them being integrated.

However, I have found a peripheral that will allow me to install a graphics card into that and then connect it to the computer either through USB or some other sort of wire. The thing is, it says this peripheral is for Notebooks. Before going out and splashing £150 - £200 on one, can someone confirm that this will work for the HP TouchSmart? I don't see why it shouldn't.

It is called 'ViDock 2'. You can buy them without a graphics card installed, or buy one with a graphics card installed. Obviously the cheaper one is without the graphics card, but then you will need to go out and buy a graphics card. So if I do buy one, I will be buying the one with the graphics card. So can someone confirm for me whether it would work or not?

Thanks.

They will work just fine, think of the Touchsmart desktop as a giant laptop.
But be warned weird things happen in regards to touch input when you use these types of devices.

Don't mean to necro-post, but I am in the same boat. I am looking at the newest VDock, but am not sure how it would physically hook up to my Touchsmart 600 desktop. The videos of the VDock I've seen say something about the device connecting to the PC via an "PCI Express port." I don't think my PC has such a connection. How did this device connect to your Touchsmart desktop?

The "Vidock" line is for laptops with the appropriate ports, the Touchsmart Desktop line does not have this interface available so you're out of luck.

In general there is not a good solution to this issue, the Touchsmart line was never designed for graphics expansion after purchase. The OP had a bunch of stuff in their post so I didn't specifically correct them on the Vidock to desktop conflict.
