It seems that my Touchsmart is suffering from pregnant pauses very often and can only be fixed for a short time if I restart the system.

I am tempted to clean the system re-install the programs but the system came with Vista and I have Windows 7 loaded ontop of it so I am not looking forward to the big restore.

It has bothered me so much that I have gone back into the stores to check out the new big screen desktop touch PC's.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

As a side note, I am running Microsoft Security software, super-anti-spyware program (suggested by HP) Norton Utilities and Spybot Search and Destroy.

I'm going to suggest that if you have all these running in active mode you're going to have them stepping over each other and that could be making your problems far worse.

When you say "Norton Utilities" you really do mean that product, not the OEM Norton protection product that ships with HP computers, right?
It sounds a lot like you have "over-protective-itus" going on. Just because one AV product is good, that doesn't make 2 better :-)

Also take a peek at your Task Manager, see what's using the most memory and CPU cycles, that will help you tarck down anything that's misbehaving.

I did most all that. I even disabled a lot of programs from loading on start-up. I don't have Norton spy-ware that came loaded. I do use the Norton Utilities to keep my system registry clean and error free.

It is funny. My system will show only 10% system usage but will pause or hang. I looked it up on the net and see a lot of people having the same problem. I have even recently taken to uninstalling software that I have not used in 30 days.

Oh, also I should say that I don't have them all running at the same time. I only have Norton Utilities and SuperAntiSpyware running. The others are removed from the start-up and only function when activated with a mouse click.
