I have the IQ816 [vista] and it now will not adjust using the method in my title for this post...I think this has started since I got the latest update which was "nVidia-display-NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS" that came out on Sept. 02, 2010...I'm almost certain this is the source of the problem...I tried the display settings in the power setting from the control panel and went to the high preformance setting there and also to the advance settings and then to display and turned on adaptive display and also set display settings down to 50% to see if it would do anything, but still no change....I hope I discribed this enough for you all.

do you have the keyboard software installed,
there should be the keyboard and mouse icons on the taskbar

yes I do and it's not that the key board doesn't respond to the commands...when When I use the keys to change the display brightness the bar displays and moves in the proper directions using the Fn key and either the up or down F10 and F11 keys...I truely believe that the NVIDA update has done something or has changed a setting that is stopping this feature from working..I use this feature several times a day depending the room conditions for how bright it is in the room...has anyone else installed this update...the GeForce 9600 GS is the standard card that came with my IQ816...I thought I would see if anyone else has this problem after doing the update and if I don't here from anyone for some time, I will try un-installing the update and see what happens...thanks for your come back.

Did you get the update via HP's update process or via Microsofts' Windows Update? if Microsoft then that could be an issue, you want to try and avoid video driver updates from MS and stick with the OEM (in this case HP) drivers.

Treat the Touchsmart like a laptop.. :-D

yes the update was from Microsoft and the reason I loaded it was because almost from the start of getting this PC one of the problems I got going into the Maintenance program and then to problem reports and solutions I was getting a message to get the latest NVIDIA GeForce update and I could never find it, so when the update came up on Sept. 2, 2010 I loaded it...what I'll do is leave it till the weekend and if I don't get any more info here I'll un-install the update and see how it is.

If you need to check for updated drivers you can always do that via the support section of www.hp.com that will always have the HP tweaked version of the drivers for your model.

I couldn't un-install the NVIDIA Microsoft update so I went back to the previous driver and that fixed my trouble...now all is OK.

something else about the NVIDA Microsoft update that caused my trouble is that when ever I went to u-tube I would automatically be at HD level which was a good thing...I think the update was ok but it wasn't designed for things like touch smart's way of doing the displays brightness.
