My Touchsmart tx2z power adapter stopped working and now it does charge the battery or turn on the laptop when the battery is not connected?  I have replaced the power adapter cord and still having the same problem?  Any ideas out there?  Battery now if fully drained so laptop won't stay on.  The laptop would work with just the battery and no plug, but that drains the battery and not a good idea since the cord doesn't charge the battery any more.

It's a bit tough to read your message, but it sounds like you're saying that you have the symptom of a bad AC adapter, however you replaced the adapter and the new adapter doesn't work either.

This could mean the jack inside the notebook for the AC adapter is damaged, and you may need to have it repaired by a professional.

Thanks Diane, that's what HP told me and I'm trying to avaoid their fee to send to them and fix it. Enjoy

Well the other option is to fit a new jack your self. You can buy them on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HP-Pavilion-HP-TX2000-TX2-1000-TX2Z-DC-Power-Jack-/1206...

But be warned, you will need a powerfull soldering iron. With a standard one you will struggle to remove the original jack of the motherboard safely.

All in all I recomend you go through HP. How much is their fee anyway?

I customised my HP tx2z with:
6GB RAM
400GB 5200rpm Hard Disk
2.4Ghz AMD Turrion Ultra x2 ZM-86
Bluetooth + Wireless N
Lightscribe DVD-RW drive

I live in the UK - But I imported my tx2 from america.

HP was asking for $289 + shipping to fix the Power jack.

What do you think the issue is, when windows says the battery is charging, the light on the power jack is on, but the battery doesn't charge?

do you think its a dc power jack issue, or something with the charging circuit, or battery interface?

If you're saying the battery shows charging and then DOESN'T hold a charge, that's usually a battery and not at all the OPs post, theirs was a battery they could NOT charge.

I have a friend with the same laptop, I plug my brand new charger and battery into his laptop, and charge the battery completely. Then plug the same devices into my laptop, and it shows its charging in windows and powe jack lights up, but instead discharges.

I say it's time to send it in for service, you could have said all that in your initial post, sounds a lot like you have power jack issues.
