It's an update to exactly what it says, the software that runs the hard drives, usually these updates are released because there's a small bug in previous versions, it's suggested you install updates such as this.

ok...I'll load it...after the last update that came from Microsoft that caused a problem with my touchsmart software I get a little edgy...I figured it had to do with my hard drive but I just wanted to check if anyone else had loaded this one...thanks for your return.

You didn't state that this update was from Microsoft, in that case things change, I would not recommend updating HARDWARE drivers from Microsoft Update.

Keep in mind that you should turn that setting OFF in Windows update, it was never on by default, do not have it deliver other updates or hardware updates automatically, use it for MS and Windows required updates only. Always get your HARDWARE updates from HP.

MS knows it's OS better than anyone else, have them handle that, they do not know your hardware better then HP.

I don't have auto windows updates turned on and when I get updates I only do the one's for MS and Windows and almost all optional ones I ignore...the reason I did the NVIDIA that came from Microsoft that screwed up my display brightness, which I have since went back to a previous driver to rectify that problem, was because for more then a year or more when I would go to my problem reports and solutions in my maintenance program where I was always getting a message to update my video driver so I thought the NVIDIA update was a fix for it and so I loaded it...when I got this last update I thought I would ask if anyone knew of this one and I got your reply..I did load it and so far no trouble...the biggest problem I run into is the odd blue screen and since there doesn't really be a fix for that then when I see an update for things like drivers or this last one I figure maybe these are fixes for reoccurring problems like the blue screen..just to let you know, I may have the blue screen problem under control...I had notices I would get the blue screen after important updates for windows, so now after installing the important updates and doing restarts, even when after the updates are installed and you are not asked to do a restart, I do a restart and then I will run my Norton 360 which also has a registry clean up as well as other clean up programs and that has almost eliminated the blue screen problem...I always believed that if it ain't brok don't fix it, but let's face it, HP and Microsoft do not run error free and one can see that on forums like these so we have a choice at updates, should I or should I not...again thanks for your reply.
