Hi All

Just bought the new Touchsmart 600-1220C and was told I would not get the new 4.0 software (Maybee we will next year, but lets try to help each other to get it working now! I am running the 64 bit Windows 7 premium (Default HP)

Have a fuld backup of your PC before you start. !!!

ALSO the newer your HW is the better it will work.

UPDATE: HW HOME bottom on side of the screen is working now

UPDATE: Webcam 3.0 works in the new 4.0 Touchsmart UI (Dont un-install it!)

Touchsmart 4.0 Installation instructions for Desktop (Tested on the new 600-1220C)
IMPORTANT: Some old versions you would have to un-install before but most of them will un-install before installing the newe version!
LINKS for downloading the installation files: LINK

After extracting all the exe files with Winrar you go to the SCR folder to install by running the setup.exe in most cases...
1) Install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (NOT the HP Software Framework for the Notebook) LINK If doing this on a Notebook use the HP framework package!

WEBCAM ERROR! - HP TouchSmart Webcam Software 4.0.XXXX 2 Installation versions! both give the same error message:

2010-11-01 , Version:4.0.3130, 126.6M

2010-10-13 , Version:4.0.3130, 126.53M Gives this Error message:

ERROR Message:

HP MediaSmart Webcam needs a Component from Microsoft Windows Media Player to function correctly please Install Microsoft Windows Media Player (Version 11.0 or above)

Anyone have a fix/Solution for this problem?

Best regards & Thanks for a excellent forum!

Lets see if we cant make a full installation package.

I think one major reason to get 4.0 is the speed and Precision and the new MAGNETS! love them. I think its much better than 3.0 (As it should be for a new major release)

I will try to update this when new fixes are found or new versions....

UPDATE: One new Application in 4.0 that I cant install is the : HP TouchSmart Paint it! By Corel Software

If anyone knows how to do this then let me know...looks like a great APP.

UPDATE: I Rolled back to the 3.0 and keept the Webcam v3 software installed.

I then installed everything from 4.0 on top of the old 3.0 versions and every time the HP installation would uninstall the old 3.0 and install the 4.0 afterwards...(Except TouchSmart 4.0 interface you have to uninstall that beforehand)

So every old application I had in 3.0 that is not made for 4.0 is now running in 4.0 and when/if the 4.0 ever gets ported to the 600-1220C I can update the older 3.0 Apps.

Sofar no real problem and now I am looking for a way to get the "Paint Now!" working Laughing also starting the 4.0 Touch compared to the 3.0 is 3 times faster "Booting" !

Again thanks for the info from all you other TouchSmart Gurus!

UPDATE: Just got Blu-ray playback in "HP TouchSmart DVD Software Version 4.0.4328" and it now also gets the BD cover to display before play-back (Did not see that in the old 3.0 version)

Very nice work on documenting it all!

Thanks for the info. question: I'm not that familiar in working with .Net (actually, never used it before)
From what I understand from you guys is that I need to install .Net on my Touchsmart and after that don't use it? Just install .Net, download the touchsmart software and install them? Thanks for helping me out. Would love to have 4.0 running on my 510 (with 7x64)

Just follow my instruction... (-; NET is a base for the programming...
You can use all the installations applications...

Looks like HP will be releasing Touchsmart 4.0 to prior owners of 600 and 300 series Touchsmarts next week,

That is good news. Can't get the above instructions to work unfortunately. Hopefully the release will work with 500 series as well

January 6, 2011 4:58 AM

Great Finally... I am still missing some of the new Apps (-;

Griff7: Have you tried just installing the NET & the new Touch Control SW 4.0?
The old apps will work in 4.0

Official support is 300/600 series and above, IQ5xx and IQ8xx do not appear to currently be supported, but I'm sure an enterprising soul will resolve that at some point.

What about the 9100, do you think they will tackle this model?

no, but as mentioned in the other thread a manual install should work

Nice job posting the upgrade process- I will try your tip of re-installing v3 apps since I need to get Pandora back in the music app

Notes on new v4 (I upgraded yesterday on my 600-1055):

HP REMOVED PANDORA FROM TS 4.0 - HOW HARD DOES THAT SUCK??? And they don't even tell you this up front.

The global volume control which used to be conveniently at top right is now on the left and less usable than ever.

WARNING - VERSION 4 WILL NOT PICK UP YOUR VERSION 3 PREFERENCES / SETTINGS! Poor programming here folks.. how hard is to to pick up a previous version's config settings / preferences?

The upgrade installation process was laughable- the average user will never be able to do it, let alone spend hours downloading / running each individual installer. Even the built in error logging is messed up. This is a fine example of "lazy" development. It would not have been difficult to go the small extra step and create a full install packager of all v4 upgrade components, run once and done. Even if the download was say 500mb or 1gb it would have been well worth it in convenience to the end user (us).

Sorry all if this sounds harsh- I really had high hopes for version 4 since version 3 was a good start, and would have been absolutely perfect with a few tweaks and updates. However, HP obviously does not listen to the user community, or use these products themselves, or know really what to do- Version 4 is a complete downgrade, a step backwards in usability and fun. I still can't get over that they pulled Pandora and your only choice for inet music is to "go roxio". Forced marketing is lame.

In closing - I will bet dollars to donuts that if you forced HP execs to use these at home for "family entertainment computers", their wife and kids would be screaming at the inadequacies of the TS UI and weak-sauce applications, and afterwards we might actually see a good product come out of that...

im installing now with the upgraded music/picture/movie software thats out .... even if its a downgrade it works my 3.0 would show the tiny hp touchsmart startup box in center of screen then crash without an error code or anything so if it works ill be happy to have a touchsmart programm back

Touchsmart IQ526
Windows 7

I started with version 2.0 of the Touchsmart software and Windows Vista. Upgraded to Windows 7 and TS 3.0. Just used the instructions to upgaded to TS 4.0. VERY NICE UPGRADE! We are making progress. I love how you can store magnets off screen.

I drilled down the SCR folders to the setup exe files for the most part. But, needed to go back in several cases and used the install files in the first level of the scr folders.

Rock on!

Hello, my English is bad. I installed all the software, but Touchsmart runs without shortcuts. reinstalling does not help. Labels can be placed in any location, can change the registry. thanks in advance.

I have a touchsmart 600-1315 and had a virus and my touchsmart 4.0 was uninstalled I think. Can I use the upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0 to reinstall it?

You should be able to use the Recovery Manager or your recovery DVDs that you made, while you can manually download the files from HP it is a bit of a pain to install them all when you don't have to.
