To troubleshoot the side-by-side config issue, could I ask you to do the following:
1. Provide the Software Build # as reported in the Window that comes up when you hit Ctrl+Alt+S on the keyboard. This requires that you didn't wipe out the HP factory shipped software.
2. Provide the version number of the HP Touch Optimizer as reported in Control Panel - Programs - "Uninstall a program" (you may have to turn on the Version column in this window, let me know if you need help doing that.)
The theory is that some C++ runtime libraries are missing from your system. Getting the two pieces of information above will help verify that theory.
Hi all just two things
whoopee we are to get a spring update to the TS software looks like an improvement too, when will it be available to us surely we should get the chance to rip it apart, metaphorically speaking.
The other is a problem i'm having with the optomize for touch application every time I open it I get the error message
HPTouchOptomizer.EXE failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect.
Hope someone can help.
Ian

What's the program version of this update? I am using the 'latest' with a version of 2.0.3126.29817.
When I try to use HP Update Center, nothing new comes up. I also went to the HP support website and it didn't have a new version listed, with 2.0.3126 being the latest version (November 2008).
Would love to try the new version.

Kuby said: Has the spring update been tested for compatibity with Windows 7?No. Windows 7 is still in development. There wouldn't be much of a point in spending time testing until at least the RC release is out.
The Spring release has the major/minor program version 2.5. It's not available on the support site yet due to some non-technical issues that need to be worked out.

A repro in the lab shows that the side-by-side issue is due to missing Visual C++ 2008 runtime libraries. Please download and install the following from the Microsoft download center: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9B2DA534-3E03-4391-8...
thanks tieguy it worked for me the optimize for touch and mouse
but it was safe for me to install the visual c++ 2008 runtime libraries you advised us to downoad, i'm not to saavy on this touchsmart.. i just dont wanna break it, i am always skeptical when i dl something.. just want to make sure it is safe? thank you
If the optimizer programs work out of the box, you don't need to install the Visual C++ 2008 runtime files.
