Upon restoring my PC, I found that it did not backup an update to the TouchSmart UI that remedied the issue where TS was not allowing users to define folders, change backgrounds and several other elements.
The udpate had resided on http://www22.touchsmartdevzone.com/forum/thread/148/TouchSmart-Software-Version-2.0.3126-Update-Available-Now/ back in 2009.
It is now a dead link and HP support tells me that they cannot provide the update for whatever bureaucratic reason.
If anybody can provide me with the means of securing 2.0.3126 I would greatly appreciate it. We take our IQ PCs out on indie film festivals, so the folder watches and backgrounds are attractive elements. THANKS!!!!! Jake
You're probably not finding it because it was superseded, most of the TS 2.x applications are up to version 2.5.x. You can find the current 2.x version software on the HP.com support site for your model. There's no "bureaucratic reason" or conspiracy here, just software that has newer versions.
Can I take your quest for 2.x software to mean that you decided not to upgrade to Win7?
GTG, good call on tracking it down through alternative sources! :-D
Thanks for the quick replies! I had attempted the W7 upgrade on IQ504. The TS UI was very unstable thereafter. I decided to be content with the lower-performing Vista OS, so the 2.5X is not an option.
HP Total Care told me they are aware of what I needed, told me where the dead page link was, but the regretfully told me he cannot provide me with the appropriate update file, instead pointing me back to some irrelevant optimization updates that I had already applied.
Thus far I have found the assistance from all of you on this forum far more helpful than the official channels. Thanks, again!
Unfortunately, the HP Touchsmart Update sp40893 did not do the trick.....I'm hunting around a few driver sites, but no luck so far. I've tried sp40845, sp40893, s040894, sp40985. Any other suggestions? I know that specific 2009 update did the trick, just cannot seem to find it anywhere.
Quite a situation. Because we could not specify files for photos, the HP also decided to include a folder containing scans of billing invoices for all the world to see...including our competitors! And with 5 of these machines, dumping is not the alternative my employers want to hear. Help!
Why are you saying 2.5 TS items are not an option? 2.5 is for Vista and listed on the Vista OS support pages. FWIW sp40894.exe was superseded by sp43116.exe v2.8.3511.21625
You say you "attempted" the Win 7 upgrade and TS was "unstable" was that after you updated to 3.x? My 3.x Win7 machines have been a lot more solid than when they were Vista and TS 2.5
It sounds more and more like you're looking for an update to the Photo app that's part of the TouchSmart software suite. Is that correct?
The update I was searching for was posted in 2009. It is described by a fellow site member as follows:

I have downloaded the HP Calendar app update, the HP Notes app update, and the HP Touchsmart software update. I can't speculate as to the behind the scenes fixes, but from user's perspective, here are the features I have noticed added:
HP Calendar:
-Now displays weather and upcoming events in the main menu tab.
-Now "supports" synchronization with Windows Calendar and Google Calendar (I put that in quotes because I haven't actually tried it...)
-Expanded options in event/appointment creation, specifically descriptions, event types, and when you want a reminder.
HP Notes:
-Now supports the creation of To-Do lists.
HP Software:
-Under "Personalize", you can now choose the background for the Touchsmart software. This can be either your current desktop background, the default black, or a file of your choosing, though be advised the program will apply a lighting filter and a black film over the top of the image to mimic the lighting in the default background.
Yes..."attempted" would be the appropriate word, as the subsequent "instability" suggests that the W7 installation was not performed properly. Returning the IQ504 to its previous state (Vista SP2) remedied the constant blue-screens and laggy performance.
Regarding the update to W7, HP told me that they were out of the upgrade disks, due to a quota established by Microsoft, and could not offer any more at any price. I was informed that the driver updates and other necessary elements could be performed without this HP disk.
I might give it another try on one PC before proceeding with the remaining units.
the new TS UI for the 300/600 series is phenomenal! Seeing as how I am struggling with the update for a less advanced predecessor, am I safe to assume updating to this version on an IQ rig is out of the question?
Thanks, Jake
Jake,
You keep focusing on the HP WIn7 upgrade, but there is really nothing special about it that deserves the attention you're giving it. It consists of 2 parts, a disc of HP application and preperation scripts, and a regular MS Windows 7 upgrade DVD.
If it were me.. I would reformat the machine and use my Win7 to do a clean upgrade, then install the 3.x Touchsmart apps from the All-In-One installer on the forums here.
There's nothing stopping an advanced user from installing the version 4.x software on an IQ5xx or 8xx unit except for the fact that it is advanced level and one would need to be comfortable with manually extracting the applications and installing them one by one. Not something I would casually recommend.
Thanks...as noted in my profile, I am a novice user. I felt compelled to proceed with the installer/upgrade tool kit.
If you think it a low-risk option, I would like to give the W7 upgrade, and subsequent TS upgrade a shot.
Just for clarification, what is the version Name/No. of the TS file(s) I would need upon upgrading my IQ504? I would use a retail upgrade version of W7.
Thanks for the warning on the new UI. It is quite tempting, so I MIGHT task our IT to give it a try. An experienced IT manager should not have too much trouble, I hope!
Jake,
The information on the 4.x manual install is over in the 4.x threads, we talked around it a bit, and an advanced user with some scripting experience should be able to pick up on the discussions we were having.
