Hello - My IQ816T Wireless Network Controller stopped working in a weird way.  It let's me connect to my router and shows full signal strength.  But, the connection speed varies wildly, changing from 1.0Mbs to 135Mbs and everything in between.

Sometimes it lets me ping and see other devices on my network and sometimes not.  Sometimes it lets me get on the Internet and sometimes not.  However, it is now very rare that it works.  All the diagnostics say everything is fine.

I do not suspect noise or interference.  All my other devices work.  The Ethernet LAN card works great.

This just started happening.  So, I suspect the network controller is bad.  Is this a replaceable card or is the NIC part of some internal motherboard?  Can HP fix it or am I stuck with having to use an external USB WiFi card?

I've seen a lot of complaints about this (mostly people cannot see routers when they should be able to.)  Is this a known failure for my TouchSmart PC?  What are my options?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul: Does your router support Windows 7 computers. I had simler problem. Check with your internet provider for an up dated router. Your computer is working just fine. I contacted my internet provider they provided a new router and now every thing is fine. That works with windows 7. The older routers are not compatible with these new computers. Your computer would have reported if there was trouble with your Lan card. Your settings may be set wrong also. Have tried using it with another source out side home base router. Try resetting the router up again. Make sure you are using right set up adapter settings. I forget what the codes are listed. Good Luck.

Hello Fred -

Thank you for your reply. Inexplicably, the system is working well again.

I have a new NetGear router and a Comcast Aris cable modem.

Best regards,

Paul
