Re-install a clean copy of windows.
I customised my HP tx2z with:
6GB RAM
400GB 5200rpm Hard Disk
2.4Ghz AMD Turrion Ultra x2 ZM-86
Bluetooth + Wireless N
Lightscribe DVD-RW drive
I live in the UK - But I imported my tx2 from america.
Hi I have a tx2-1012nr 4gigs with the AMD dual core 2.10Ghz and I removed vista and put a clean install of windows 7 ultimate x64 on. Ever since, the computer has been extremely slow. There aren't any unnecassary programs because it was clean. The only thing that I am suspecting is the Norton Internet security 2011, which I am currently uninstalling...I'll update if this improves the speed.
Problem:
I takes about 5-6 minutes from the time I slide the on switch to when I can use the computer. (inc. login)
It takes roughly 30-45secs for itunes, windows live mail, media center/player, bb desktop software, google chrome, skype. It doesn't matter which program just takes forever.
The CPU and Motherboard are replaced but with brand new from HP components, the computer ran swell under vista for me, contrary to the horror stories I hear from friends and read online. Could anyone help me improve the speed of my computer without sending me to download third party diagnostic tools?

I am currently in the final stages of downloading and updating a clean re-install of x64 win7 ult. after formatting the drive. I haven't installed norton internet security 2011 yet, but as of now things are MUCH quicker
*edit* Before I did a re-install, I also narrowed it down to the instStub.exe file that was putting a major load on the processor. Apparently it does so because there were corrupt registry files...
