This message has been around for a while, but it still pops up in google, so I'll address it.
I almost hate to say it, but there is no such thing as "Linux." There are Linux distributions and forks of distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, SuSE, Mint, Ultimate Edition . . . ). They all have differences and some of these differences are huge from a user's perspective.
From my experience, Mint 8 works great with the 610. The current distribution, Mint 11, works for everything out of the box *except* the Ralink 539X WiFi. That isn't an HP issue, that's a Linux Mint 11 issue. From what I understand, it is also an issue with Ubuntu 10 and 11 (which, if you know anything about Mint, makes sense).
I haven't tried yet, but see this thread for a possible solution to Wifi. http://ubuntulinux.co.in/blog/ubuntu/wifi-card-ralink-5390-configuration-in-u...
Concerning the display, is it because the touchscreen isn't working or the resolution is off? What distribution are you trying to install?
I have a customer who needs to install Linux on Touchsmart 610-1030 whch uses Intel chipset. Having problems with graphics not working. Anybody have any experience with this?
Will the AMD chipset work OK? he has used the 300 series with AMD running Linux successfully.
