So what's new in the IQ820? I just bought an IQ815 a month ago, so I'm always curious to know how obsolete I've become.

Hardware specs are a little different (following the technology curve in general) and the 820 has the Spring version of the software, I believe.

The main difference is the CPU, it's a newer CPU with faster front bus, it also mean they have change the motherboard as well since the older motherboard only support 800MHz.

Probably to address the cause of the constant freezes, which I'm more and more convinced is down to poor design causing lack of airflow..

If every single 81x user isn't offered this upgrade free of charge with a free delivery and removal of the old machine, HP will have a PR nightmare on heir hands..

I've never had my 815 freeze since I disabled the Touchsmart software, which is a MASSIVE resource hog. Since that's been disabled from auto-running, the machine flies, and KNOCK WOOD has never crashed since.

I don't think that is going to happen, since they not only change the CPU in new machine, but also the motherboard, so it diificult for them to do the exchange

btw, the IQ820 has been delay for a few weeks....

Done that, removed norton, rolled back updates, folowed every bit of advice but it still freezes up far too often.. I do think it's getting too hot. I had to clear a load of fluff from the tiny little fan intake but that did nothing either.

Not really, they can exchange the whole machine.

let hope the American version is better then the UK version, i've had two HP IQ820 & both have gone Wrong within a month of owning them.

I ve had it from chashing to blue srceen of death & the web cam sticking on & if this was not bad enough after it went to standby the only way for it to work afterwards was to swich it off from the plug & then re touch the start buton, This is not want i was looking for at the Price i have paid to own one.

I am now waiting for a full refund from hp after being told i have to wait 5 working days from the day they get the pc back 22 may 09

I do miss the size of it, But wish i never gone in for one
