There are no "reteail/OEM" distinctions made, you should be able to download and install the applications from the HP web site support sections. There's no need to post extensive logs, a simple summary of the error you get when installing should be sufficient.
Hi,
My HP model number is DV6-3194CA, I bought this touch screen laptop from Canada. It had Windows 7 64 bit with Touchsmart application bundle installed. I had no issues with using Touchsmart application and I really liked it. Few weeks back, my harddisk got corrupted and I couldn't recover it back since I didn't purchased the recovery disk. Right now I am in India and this laptop have limited support from HP. So there are no recovery DVD available here for this model. So I installed the retail Windows 7 64 bit with all the HP drivers. Now I am not able to install the touchsmart application. HP support says that this application will work only on OEM operating system and not work on retail versions of Windows OS. Is that correct? Or still there is any chances? There are some log files got generated before the installation failure. If you want I can send you the logs. Help me please.
Regards,
Raja
Thanks for giving me some hope. The below is the log from C:\System.sav\logs\HPTSDVD.log.

259's are frequently "you can't install in this model" you may want to review that you're downloading for the correct model. Some components MAY.. and I say may, require the original applications be on the system, those might cause issues that would require you have someone in the US buy you the recovery DVD and ship them to you since HP does not usually ship to alternate countries.
Hi Diane,
Thanks for your reply and sorry for my delayed response. I was in travel for last couple of days.
As I said before I had been using Touchsmart in my laptop for more than six months. So my hardware is not an unsupported model for Touchsmart. I have tried with the installer that I downloaded from
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-9069...
In this page please check that I have selected the correct HW model number and application version, i.e., 4.1.1.4521.
I don't understand what is the HP's term and policy. If I am planning to upgrade my OS to Windows 7 (say professorial/Ultimate) , though Touchsmart will work on all Windows 7, I should not upgrade. HP hardware (say my Laptop) support Windows 7 and HP application (Touchsmart) support Windows 7 but still I should stick with recovery DVD.. this is unfair. Even If I buy the recovery DVD from HP I will get only the Windows 7 Home Basic 64 Edition. What if I want to go for professorial/Ultimate version? So in that case I have to choose either Windows 7 professorial or Touchsmart but not both.
From the log,
Tue 06/28/2011 23:27:35.39 The PC brand is "Pavilion".

Tue 06/28/2011 23:27:35.39 BrandName:
Here the installer failed to detected the "BrandName". I think this is why the installation is not succeeding. There can be a registry entry of some driver may provide this detail. Can you please check with Touchsmart developers?
Raja,
I do not have any magic to assure you that the download is correct, I can only guide you to the right process. The DVD software is very picky about how it installs and most frequently asks for the original software, do the other packages install properly?
You can also upgrade many versions of Win7 by just updating the key number, no need to completely reinstall, I've done this several times without any ill effects. US machines come with HP Home premium x64 which should work for 99% of all users, what feature do you need Pro/Ultimate for?
Thanks for guiding me in this regard.

Can you please explain me what do you mean the original software? Did you mean the Genuine Windows or not? I am still using Windows Home premium x64 but its not from HP, I used the retail version and use the HP OEM key to make this as Genuine Windows platform. After that I have installed Microsoft office, Visual Studio, .net frameworks and all Microsoft updates successfully. All the HP drivers are installed correctly except the Touchsmart.
I am planning to buy the Windows 8 , if this cost more then I will got for Windows Pro. Right now I didn't expect any feature but if there is a good deal then I will plan to buy it. Anyhow right now this is not my issue. At least I want the Touchsmart to work on retail version of Windows Home 64 bit.
The DVD software wants to have the original HP installed DVD software before it updates, it doesn't like to update "clean" that's one of the things I have noticed over time from the comments people have, and my own personal experiences.
Do the other Touchsmart applications install? There's a lot more to Touchsmart than the DVD software.
You installed "clean" and that means you don't have any of the HP hooks that help tell the HP applications, once you install clean you're a lot more on your own as far as support. When I say "original software" I am referring to the original HP build that is shipped with the machine.
I am not able to install any of the Touchsmart applications except HP TouchSmart Photo Software. I am very much interested in DVD and Webcam Software. I will post the error which I got for Webcam software installation too.

That's really not going to help if it's the same kind of error, when someone goes and rebuilds a machine as a "clean install" that makes these items much more difficult and you'll find HP themselves tend go back and suggest doing a recovery to factory to resolve the issues.
There are ways to manually extract the contents of the sp####.exe files, but they're unsupported and not something we would get in to here in the devzone forums.
