Hi my friend have a Touchsmart IQ 830sc and a year ago he updated the bios to version 5.04 which disables acpi so he can't run or install Vista or Windows 7 , and what makes it even worse is that the official bios update that fix the problem only supports Vista

So is there a way to update the bios without using the offical update file from HP ?

You're mistaken about the BIOS and ACPI being forced to disabled with the BIOS, it's the new BIOS that resolves an ACPI failure issue. HP would not have had a BIOS that doesn't let you use the only 2 operating systems the machine supports.

BIOS 5.07 should install on both Vista and Win7.
You might want to go in to the BIOS and try a full "reset to defaults"

Yeah that what I though too but there is a bug in the 5.04 version that cause the acpi error so the computer can't load anything Vista or Windows 7 related , and there's no acpi option in the bios so reseting to default don't work

I know the latest bios update fixes this problem but it only works in Vista or Windows 7 so the only way to fix this problem is to update the bios some other way . If someone could send me the latest bios rom file I would be very thankful

My friend stopped using the computer after the update a year ago (since the warranty was out) and HP couldn't provide any solution

I know you can't SEE the ACPI setting in the BIOS, but trust me, that doesn't mean a "Reset to Factory default" won't still reset the hidden settings.

You should also be able to manually extract the BIOS update yourself.

FYI, run the upgrade on ANY machine and then look in the users \appdata\temp folder when it says "your system does not meet..." (do not click OK), the ISO for a bootable disc will be there

He already tried to reset to the default settings but I did get the iso file from running the bios update so thanks for the help
