My Iq830 has been running fine for a long time. Upgraded the CPU and the disk earlier this year and have been running Windows 7 ever since.
Recently the pc booted with a temporarily user profile and this could not be repaired easily so I decided for a clean install of Windows 7. I had my files backed up so no real problem.
But with my clean Windows 7, the computer suddenly froze and after a few seconds I had a blue screen. The computer immediately rebooted so I could not see any information on the screen.

The same happened a few times so I took out the SSD and connected it to another computer to run some tests. Nu virus was found and also no errors were found but the disk failed after a while so I replaced it and at the same time I also upgraded the memory to 8GB.
With my new disk and the new memory and again a clean Windows 7, the PC has been running fine for 2 days but this morning the PC froze and rebooted again.

What can cause this problem? Can it be a heat problem or perhaps a problem with the Video card?

Assume I cannot replace the videocard on this TouchSmart right?

Nobody with the same or similar problem?

It might be related to Microsoft Security Essentials. Have removed it and will see if the problem is solved.

The usual discussions on diagnosing and resolving BSODs apply, you can get a great deal of info on previous BSOD threads here, they also include links and examples to help.

If you've had virus issues in the past I strongly discourage you from running without AV, in general Microsoft Security Essentials is safe and does not cause stability issues, I know in all the cases of friends and family running it, none have ever had BSOD issues.

My issue is actually two problems which are possibly not related and I could not find any similar topic on booting with a temporarily user profile.

Anyway, it is not related to MSE. From the log's I saw some Messenger errors so uninstalled Live Messenger yesterday but still have the BSOD twice a day.

So I am wondering if it can be a hardware problem. Has anyone successfully installed a new videocard on a 800 series?

You can in theory pull it IF you have one of the add on vs base Intel, but it's not the graphics card, really its not, and just to repeat, it's not going to be the graphics card.

Have you done the homework to find out what the source and module is causing the BSOD and is it consistent? http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&... can be a large help.
