Well, I cant believe it, but after trying the system recovery, more than 5 times because I was having constantly freezing of screen problems; it is now impossible to use my pc (Touchsmart iq 816), it hangs when formatting giving an 1005 ERROR. When running pc diagnostic tools, processor is ok; ram is ok; but on hard disk drive I got an BIOHD-4 ERROR, with the suggestion: Please Contatct HP support.

Now, I am felling really bad about this purchase, several months saving for buying it from Amazon, I paid 2300 US dollars in total to have it sent to Panama (my country in Central America) and cant use it.

,

I bought it from amazon on december 15th and pick it up on december 26th, it only lasted less than 1 month, and it is useless right now. Now I dont know what to do, I have the right to use the warranty, but my pc was bought from amazon and I live in a country diferent than the United States of America.

I am now searching for customer support from hp on my country.

I think the hard drive was of bad quality or something, shame because other hardware parts are ok.

I would really appreciate your comments and help

The biohd-4 error appears in the diagnostic when the boot sector is checked. I had this error when I set up a partition on the hard drive and installed windows 7. It still worked, but the boot sector error for some reason appeared. Reinstalling solved this problem. It seems you have lost the hard drive entirely. I know you would like to use the warranty but if you want to use your computer quickly you could simply replace the hard drive as it can be easily done. There is a manual with instructions on how to do this on the hp website (upgrading and servicing guide). You should be able to find a new hard drive equivalent to the one in your touchsmart for less than $100. Hopefully HP will replace the bad one and you would then either have a spare or you could buy a case for it and use it as an external drive. Even if you get the warranty service problem ironed out I am certain it will take quite a while before you receive a new drive in Panama.

Just a thought, but why not try removing the HD and putting it back in? You may have loose connections in there from all the shipping and that alone could be causing your problems. Sometimes, a simple thing like that can really be it. Take it out, put it back in, then see if you can redo everything again.

The Seagate 7200.11 drives have a serious firmware issue. Although the firmware on our drives is a custom HP version, it is possible that your drive may have the seagate firmware instead.

Contact HP support regarding the issue and they may instruct yuo to use another computer to create a bootable CD with a firmware update.

Thanks you all for your help, but could someone tell me which hard drives models are compatible with the ts iq 816, and if its possible to install the Windows Vista Home Premium + Touchsmart Software on external hard drive.

Thanks

The Drives in the 816 are SATA II 300MB/sec I think ours come with a 32mb cache.

It is not possible to install - and run Vista/touchsmart on an external USB drive and rrun your touchsmart.

I change my hard drive out regularly to switch between Vista and Win7. Its not too difficult to get at and change if that is what you are concerned about.

The next time I do it, I can take and post some pictures of the process.

There are pictures and instructions on hard disk replacement in the manual mentioned in my above post.
