Hi, I just recently got a HP Touchsmart IQ506 and I tried to install a few games (Gothic 3, Fable, etc.) The games would install fine. It is just after the installation is complete and I try to play the game, I get an error message saying "Please Insert Disc." The disc is already in the DvD/CD drive but, I keep getting this message. I have turned off Firewall, made an exception, changed setting in Windows Defender. Nothing seems to be working. Please help me.

Thank You

make sure you have the disk inserted properly. Eject the disk, flip the disk around and
see if that
works.

The disk is in properly because the game will install with out any problems. It's just after I install it and "Run As Administrator" or just by double clicking it. It will show the game screen then it will say "Please Insert the disk into the CD/DVD Drive and restart program."

What drive letter is your CD/DVD drive?

Some older games may be looking for a default "D" drive once the game is installed. My "factory Image" is D and my DVD drive is E. That may be your problem. If there is a way to chnage the settings in the game setup for the drive letters, I would start there first. Try to sett he default in the game to E or whatever your DVD drive letter is.

Ok, I will surely try that.

But the other day i watched a movie and it worked fine. Half way through the movie though my screen went blue and I got "Error, Multiple Malfunctions in CD/DVD Drive." Then my computer reset itself and it was fine again, but it seems that the drive is also scratching my disk as it reads it. I think I might have gotten a bad drive. I do not know. Please give me some more advice, and thank you for the advice you have already given me.

P.S. Where can I find the drive letters?

To find the drive letters double click on the "my computer icon" on the desktop screen. It will show you primary drive (C), your recovery image (D) and your CD/DVD (E). any thumb drives, external drives, network drives or SD drives will also be listed and sequentially lettered after that.

Heres what it looks like on mine:

Sounds like you might have a problem with your drive though. It is not a repair job for the faint at heart - I've been working on computers for 15 years and it would even be something I'd be reluctant to replace so your best bet is to contact HP support.

Forgot to mention, if your desktop is missing the "My COmputer Icon" click on the start button and in the list in the right column you will see "Computer". Left clicking on it does the same thing.

I do have the icon "My Computer", but from what I saw with the blue screen, and the "Malfunction Error" I am pretty sure it is the drive itself. Anyway Thank You very much for the help you have given me. If you think of any other problems it might be please let me know.
