is yours an n-trig or is it a wacom stylus?
If it is a wacom (like my TX2110us uses), it may be "gummed up" (highly technical term, that) and can be fixed by following any number of guides out there on the web...
If it is just a plain type (like the nintendo stylus I use on my TS500 desktop) you are probably looking at dirty sensors around the edge of the surface... I don't know what it uses, honestly, and maybe there is a third option, but if you try those things to start, you may cure your issue.
I know that the wacom stylus on my other touchscreen laptop (an old Acer) goes through fits like that... it's so old that the Acer factory pen can't be taken apart and cleaned (but our newer HP ones can be)
Lastly, if you still have one of your broken stylii, and it's a wacom type with the side button on it, can I get the side button cover from you for a nominal fee??? :) Mine works, but it's missing that so the side is exposed, and it's darn hard to trigger it that way... and I'm cheap! LOL!
