Can you return the Touchsmart under HP warranty? It sounds like your screen may be defective.
Hello!
I hope there is someone out there that can help me with my problem. I bought a HP TouchSmart IQ512 last December and was very happy with my purchase, until now! Last friday the computer started to beep frequently with the same sound that you can hear when touching the screen once. Now however the sound is on all the time and it drives me crazy. I've tried to turn it off through the control panel, and even tried to disable the touchscreen all together, but nothing works. The weird thing is that I can still use the computer, and all the applications, normally (except for the on-screen keyboard, don't ask me why). The constant beeping however drives me insane and I really hope someone can help me. The sound itself isn't coming from the computers speakers but from the back of the computer so I can't simply turn down the volume. I called my local HP helpdesk and they suggested that I should disconect the wireless keybord and mouse receiver and restart the computer, but that didn't work either. I have run out of ideas and would be grateful for any help!
Please excuse my poor english.
Regards,
Jesper from Finland
In the meantime, try this:
If you're running Microsoft Windows you can disable the Internal speaker or PC speaker by following the below steps.
1. Open Device Manager
2. In Device Manager click View and click "Show hidden devices"
3. This should make "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" visible in Device Manager.
4. Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers by clicking the plus and double-click Beep.
5. Within the "Beep properties" window click the Driver tab.
6. Under the driver tab if you wish to temporarily disable this device click the Stop button. If you wish to permanently disable this device under the Startup Type select Disabled.

Almost makes me think that something is obstructing one of the emitters/sensors around the perimeter of your screen. Use your cleaning cloth to clean the inside edges of the frame around your screen.

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
robdam1001: I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but I'm starting to think it's probably the only way. Hopefully they can repair my computer without having to format the hard drive. Luckily my warranty is still valid so it shouldn't cost me anything, except time.
Andrew E: Thanks for the tip! Now I can at least stand using the computer for a while but I still have to take care of the underlying problem.
DaveTN: That was my first thought and I have cleaned the screen several times but it hasn't helped.
It seems to be some form of hardware malfunction. What I can't understand is the reason behind the problem. I have taken good care of the computer, cleaning it and updating software regularly. I've never dropped it or anything like that. I guess it's just one of those unexplainable problems.
Thank you for taking the time to answer me!

Jesper, if your worried about loosing your disk, get an external hard drive enclosure, a 500GB Sata drive to go in it, then plug it into one of the USB ports.
All you need do then is use somthing like paragdon partion manager to image the main drive to an archive on the remote drive, then create a restore boot CD to restore the image back once your TS is returned.
Cheers
Shawty
Yeah, I would suggest backing up any important stuff before you send it off as well. You never know what could happen.

Problem solved!
I thought I'd tell you what the problem was. It seems I have at some point, while moving the computer probably, pushed in the back panel in the top left corner of the computer pushing a piece of metal in between two wires. This little piece of metal connected the two wires together. In a sense, short circuiting the touchscreen so it belived someone was touching it constantly. This of course means I can continue using the computer without loosing any of my files. Easy fix!
Well anyway, thank you for your help. And hopefully this won't happen to anyone else.
